You can take this suggested itinerary – an adventure of a lifetime following a sacred path through the beautiful and historical Italy and Croatia. See Vatican City through the eyes of a Local Guide where you’ll visit the Vatican museum, Sistine Chapel and St Peter’s Basilica. Visit the birthplace of St Catherine in beautiful Siena, where you’ll venture into the stunning marble cathedral and church which holds her relics. Continue your holy journey into Croatia, following the coastal turquoise waters of the Adriatic and visiting Medjugorje, a famous catholic pilgrimage due to its apparitions of Our Lady.

DAY 1: ARRIVE ROME (3 NIGHTS)

Welcome to Rome, the ‘Eternal City’. The rest of the day is yours to relax. This evening enjoy dinner at a local restaurant with wine. Before returning to the hotel, enjoy an orientation drive of this city, a perfect way to start your trip.

DAY 2: ROME

This morning visit the Vatican City with our Local Guide. Marvel at the Vatican Museum, Sistine chapel and visit St Peter’s Basilica and see Michelangelo’s emotive Pieta. Cross the Tiber to take a walking tour where you’ll see the Forum, the mighty Colosseum and the Circus Maximus.

DAY 3: ROME

Join your Local Guide this morning to visit three of the major basilicas of Rome; the Basilica of St John the Lateran and St Paul’s Basilica – which houses St Paul’s tomb – and finally Santa Maria Maggiore.

DAY 4: ROME – MONTECASSINO – SAN GIOVANNI (2 NIGHTS)

Today travel down to Monte Cassino and visit the beautiful abbey. The Abbey of Monte Cassino, perched on the mountain top is a working monastery and pilgrimage site open to visitors.

DAY 5: SAN GIOVANNI 

Today your Local Guide will accompany you through The Padre Pio Shrine in San Giovanni Rotondo, to Santa Maria delle Grazie Church (dedicated in 1676) to pay homage to Padre Pio, a well-known Italian saint and on to the nearby Sanctuary of Saint Michael the Archangel, the site visited by Pope John Paul II in 1987. 

DAY 6: SAN GIOVANNI – ASSISI

Take the coastal route to Lanciano where we visit the Chapel of Eucharistic Miracle, site of the miracle of St Longinus that occurred around 700AD. This evening we arrive at the hilltop town of Assisi.

DAY 7: ASSISI – SIENA – FLORENCE (2 NIGHTS)

This morning, join your Local Guide for a walking tour and pay visits to the Basilica of St Francis and St Chiara Basilica. Then continue onto visit to the Basilica of St Mary of the Angels with its Portiuncula and see the Capella del Transito, once a humble cell where St Francis died in 1226. This afternoon visit Siena, the birthplace of St Catherine. We will see the famous Piazza del Camp, scene of the celebrated Palio horse race. With your Local Guide visit the stunning marble cathedral and visit the church which holds the relics of St Catherine. Finally we continue to the heart of the Renaissance – Florence. 

DAY 8: SAN GIOVANNI – ASSISI

After breakfast enjoy a walking tour with a Local Guide where you will visit The Accademia to see Michelangelo’s breathtaking “David”. We see Piazza Signoria and the multi-coloured marble Duomo. A visit to the Santa Croce is also included. This evening enjoy a memorable Highlights Dinner at a local restaurant.

DAY 9: FLORENCE – PADUA – VENICE MESTRE (2 NIGHTS)

This morning travel to Padua and visit the Basilica of St Anthony and see the tomb and reliquaries of the miracle-working saint and patron of “lost things”. Later continue to the floating city of Venice where we will spend the next two nights.

DAY 10: VENICE

Today, travel by private launch on a canal cruise to St Mark’s Square and see the Byzantine Basilica, Bridge of Sighs and the Doge’s Palace. After witnessing a demonstration of the ancient art of Murano glass blowing, the day is yours to explore further.

DAY 11: VENICE – POSTOJNA – LJUBLJANA (2 NIGHTS)

Take the coastal highway and soon arrive at the Slovene border. Driving through verdant scenery to reach the awe-inspiring world of stalactites and stalagmites at Postojna. Take a train ride through the most spectacular caves in Europe before continuing to the Slovene capital, Ljubljana.

DAY 12: LJUBLJANA SIGHTSEEING AND EXCURSION TO LAKE BLED

After breakfast, a sightseeing tour with a Local Guide of this Roman-founded city shows us the Opera House, the cathedral, National Museum and the castle, as well as the numerous parks. Then onto Lake Bled – ‘a little paradise on earth’ to delight in a cruise on the glassy lake in a local ‘pletna’ boat.

DAY 13: LJUBLJANA – ZAGREB – PLITVICE LAKES

A drive along the valley of the River Sava brings us to the Croatian capital, Zagreb, where sightseeing with a Local Guide highlights all the monuments of the upper and lower towns – the Church of St. Mark and St. Catherine, the Parliament, the cathedral and the Government Palace. Take a short drive south to Plitvice National Park – Croatia’s most popular tourist attraction, spend the night here.

DAY 14: PLITVICE LAKES – TROGIR – SPLIT

A day of sightseeing that will take your breath away! Visit the National Park composed of sixteen lakes linked by a series of nighty-two waterfalls and cascades before continuing to the Greek-founded town of Trogir. Finally, along one of Europe’s most beautiful coastlines to Split, lying on the limpid, turquoise waters of the Adriatic.

DAY 15: SPLIT – CITLUK (2 NIGHTS)

This morning is at leisure to relax and soak up the atmosphere of this historic city. This afternoon travel across the border into western Bosnia and Herzegovina before arriving at Citluk.

DAY 16: MEDJUGORJE

Today visit the village of Medjugorje were you can follow the path of the young visionaries to Apparition Hill, to where they first encountered Our Lady. There is time to reflect and pray at the statue which commemorates the place where Our Lady first appeared. Also visit and pray at the “Blue Cross”, located at the base of Apparition Hill. Holy Mass is held in English each morning, and each evening join the villagers and pilgrims to pray the Joyful and Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary, followed by the Croatian Mass and the Blessings. Have the opportunity to climb Krizevac (Cross Mountain).

DAY 17: CITLUK – DUBROVNIK (2 NIGHTS)

This morning, say farewell to Bosnia and Herzegovina and return to Croatia, head for the stunning medieval city of Dubrovnik. This afternoon a guided walking tour reveals a great history, including the Rector’s Palace, the city walls, Onofrio’s fountain and the Franciscan and Dominican monasteries. A UNESCO World Heritage site, Dubrovnik and its five bastions are sure to cast a spell on you!

DAY 18: DUBROVNIK FREE TIME

Today is at leisure. You may choose to explore the lively market, enjoy lunch in a seaside restaurant or simply relax in the atmosphere of this resort. Tonight enjoy a Farewell Dinner of local specialties in a character-filled restaurant.

DAY 19: DEPART DEBROVNIK

Time to bid farewell to your fellow travellers and your Travel Director as your trip comes to an end and you are transferred to Dubrovnik Airport for your onward flights.
