On every itinerary, we offer a range of optional excursions that allow you to further enhance your experience should you so choose. These are purchased when you are on your trip, via your Trafalgar Travel Director. Depending on the region visited these can be paid with cash or credit card.

    • + BEAUJOLAIS GOURMET DINNER IN A TYPICAL RESTAURANT AND VISIT TO THE OLD TOWN Experience the most acclaimed of French cuisine with an evening drive along the beautiful Saône River. Discover Lyon's secrets, from the Gauls and Julius Caesar to the medieval old town and the Italian silk merchants who influenced the Presque Isle. This UNESCO World Heritage city is also the gastronomic capital of France, best enjoyed while our chef prepares a mouth watering three course dinner, with local wines included.

  • NICE

    • + ST PAUL CORNICHE DRIVE PERFUMERY AND DINNER First to the medieval hill top town of St. Paul to visit this artists' paradise. We continue along the Riviera to travel on the corniche roads with their spectacular views to visit a local perfumery. Finally, to a characteristic restaurant for a delicious meal including drinks.

  • ARLES

    • + IN THE STEPS OF VINCENT VAN GOGH A stroll through the ancient streets and squares of this enchanting provincial town with our resident local guide and Van Gogh expert.

  • BIARRITZ

    • + HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PYRENEES FUNICULAR ASCENT AND SCENIC DRIVE A beautiful drive up into the Pyrenées where we catch our funicular train to ascend through mountain pastures to the top of these magnificent mountains where we will find ourselves in Spain! Time to enjoy some Basque hospitality before our descent. (Drink included) Weather permitting.

    • + ST JEAN DE LUZ JEWEL OF THE BASQUE COUNTRY Visit St Jean de Luz, with its 400 years of fascinating history, beautiful beach and old world charm. Your local guide will show you inside the famous 'Maison Rose' where Louis XIV 'The Sun King' met his bride to be, the Spanish princess Maria Theresa. You will find intact the breathtaking decor of the royal chambers. Then on to see the extraordinary church in which they were married in 1660 (complete with hanging sailing ships inside). Afterwards you can take a stroll through the narrow streets of St Jean, and track down some of the local specialties of this unique seaside resort.

  • BORDEAUX

    • + THE SECRETS OF THE BORDELAISE WITH LUNCH OR DINNER First, we journey through the splendid rolling vineyards of the Bordeaux region, before arriving at our French Chateau Estate. Here we will explore the estate with the owners, visit the vineyards, taste the wine, and discover the secrets of the French wine-making process in the cellars. Then on to discover a truly amazing hidden gem from the World Heritage list. Your Travel Director will reveal all. Later we dine in traditional Bordelaise style, with drinks included. The perfect way to enjoy this amazing setting.

  • PARIS

    • + LE GRAND LOUVRE The Louvre - the biggest and best known museum in the world was once the palace of kings. Follow the expert guide through the sumptuous maze of galleries to see the main attractions including Leonardo da Vinci's masterpiece - the 'Mona Lisa', and the State Apartments decorated in the style of Emperor Napoleon III.

    • + VERSAILLES - THE PALACE, GARDENS AND FOUNTAINS * We leave the bustle of the city for the splendour of Versailles. Created by the “Sun King” Louis XIV, the palace became the envy of every other European ruler. Our guide takes us through the State apartments, including the famous Hall of Mirrors. Afterwards, take a stroll through the symmetrical tree-lined gardens while the fountains play. (NB. This optional is subject to availability).

    • + MOULIN ROUGE CABARET AND DINNER Dinner and Cabaret, including wine and champagne, at the world famous Moulin Rouge - the original Paris cabaret - immortalized by the recent award winning film and featuring 60 dancers and entertainers and over 1000 costumes!

    • + NOUVELLE EVE CABARET AND DINNER Dinner with wines included at one of the most prestigious cabaret shows in town! Enjoy an evening of exciting acts, stunning tableaux and wonderful entertainment - including, of course, the world famous Can-Can. A Parisian night that you will never forget!

    • + SEINE CRUISE AND PARIS BY NIGHT Paris at night is a city transformed. Enjoy this superb 'city of light' as we take a leisurely cruise on the popular river boats under the bridges of Paris, admiring the wonderful buildings which adorn the banks of the River Seine. Afterwards, as we drive through this amazing city, we stop at some vantage points for you to capture these fascinating sights on camera. (In summer, this trip may take place before sunset).
