On every itinerary, we offer a range of optional excursions that allow you to further enhance your experience should you so choose. These are purchased when you are on your trip, via your Trafalgar Travel Director. Depending on the region visited these can be paid with cash or credit card.

  • COPENHAGEN

    • + NORTH ZEALAND RIVIERA AND CASTLE TOUR Enjoy the quaint scenery of the conservation heritage route of the Danish Riviera, passing through ancient fishing villages and modern marinas. Then through typical countryside to see Fredensborg Palace, summer residence of the Royal family before a visit to the magnificent 17th century Frederiksborg Castle. Here we will see the State Apartments and the Coronation Chapel.

    • + DANISH TRADITIONS AND TIVOLI This evening we visit the fairy-tale village of Dragor with its thatched cottages and pretty working harbour. We wander by tiny houses, learn a little of the history and enjoy a taste of traditional Danish specialities. Then to the magic of twinkling lights at Copenhagen's most famous attraction, Tivoli Gardens.

  • STOCKHOLM

    • + PANORAMIC TOWER AND DINNER A visit to the viewing platform of the Kaknas Tower, Sweden's highest building, will give you the very best views over the city and its archipelago. Then enjoy the special cuisine of a popular local restaurant with a drink included.

    • + GRAND TOUR See the Vasa, the 17th century Galleon recovered from the sea bed after more than 300 years and now displayed in an award-winning museum. Then on to the Town Hall, an architectural masterpiece which hosts the annual Nobel Prize giving ceremony.

  • HELSINKI

    • + HVITTRASK TOUR We drive through the Garden City of Tapiola with its renowned modern architecture and then to Hvittrask, a delightful village and home to Finland's most famous architects. The architectural ensemble made of natural stone and timber harmonising with its surroundings is surely one of the most accomplished examples of Finnish creation.

    • + HELSINKI DINNER Helsinki's restaurants are featured in every 'Good Food Guide' to the Baltic. Tonight we have seats reserved to enjoy the specialities of the house in an authentic setting. The atmosphere is warm and friendly and the cuisine is superb.

  • ST PETERSBURG

    • + CRUISE THE WATERWAYS OF THE VENICE OF THE NORTH Soak up the atmosphere, romance and lights of this unique and beautiful city known as 'the Venice of the North'. A cruise through the canals and along River Neva transforms the city into a magical place that has inspired generations of artists - a photographer's dream. Sip champagne as the city drifts by! A wonderful introduction to the former imperial capital.

    • + THE HERMITAGE MUSEUM Visit one of the largest and most valuable collections of art in the World set in the splendour of the Winter Palace and its elaborate interiors.

    • + RASPUTIN AND THE ROMANOVS St Petersburg is known as the Cradle of the Revolution and the downfall of the Romanov Dynasty. This unforgettable haunting visit takes us through the opulent splendour of the home of pre-Revolutionary Russia's foremost noble family, the Yusupovs. Here in the cellar, 3 months before the fateful February revolution, Felix Yusupov and members of the Tsar's court conspired and murdered the infamous Rasputin Our tour is concluded with a visit to the Peter and Paul Cathedral today recognised as the Pantheon of the tsars, including the canonised Nicholas and the relics of his wife and children. The end of a dynasty.

    • + IMPERIAL SUMMER RESIDENCES PUSHKIN AND PETRODVORETS While in St Petersburg a trip to Tsarskoe Selo, Pushkin, is a must for every visitor. The Romanovs spared no expense on their opulent summer retreats, now gems of Russian art, combining outstanding architecture, splendid parks and palaces. Miraculously restored from the ravages of Nazi occupation and destruction, work like the fairy-tale Amber Room can once again be seen. In the afternoon we continue on to the most famous town Petrodvorets, which was its Russian recreation of Versailles. It is famed for its many palaces, extravagant gardens and terraces of gilded statues and fountain cascades on the Gulf of Finland. Relax and enjoy the elegant atmosphere of these baroque gardens on our visit.

    • + RUSSIAN FOLKLORE EVENING A chance to attend one of the best Russian Folklore programs in St. Petersburg. The show includes Cossack dances, songs, instruments and costumes from around Russia, during the intermission Russian champagne and vodka are sampled, an unforgettable experience.

  • MOSCOW

    • + METRO AND RED SQUARE BY NIGHT Take a surprise journey - Ride the legendary Moscow metro through part of Stalin's showcase, the underground 'palaces' of Moscow Metro. The Communist government wanted to create a transport system unequalled in any capitalist state, bringing culture to the masses in their everyday lives. Not just another transport system, more than trains and tunnels- Western art critics include it among the "Ten Places That You Want to See before You Die" Moscow Metro is the most grandiose architectural monument of the Soviet era. Tonight we select some of the most remarkable stations to show you, decorated with stained glass, mosaics, chandeliers and statues. The tour ends in Red Square to take in its fairytale evening atmosphere.

    • + TREASURES OF THE KREMLIN A unique opportunity to visit the Treasure Chamber of the Russian Tsars during our reserved visit. See the works of Faberge, the diamonds of Catherine the Great and her golden gowns. Marvel at the Imperial carriages studded with precious stones and gold, jewelled thrones and hundreds of spectacular priceless items from the Romanov Dynasty.

    • + KREMLIN AND THE HEART OF MOSCOW We enter Moscow's political and historic inner sanctum, the Kremlin, where we see ancient cathedrals, the world's largest cannon and the emperors' bell. We then visit the miraculously reborn Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, built on the site where the Soviet government dynamited the original Cathedral. Reconstructed through the donations of millions of Muscovites, just half full it can hold 2,500 faithful. We continue to discover a true insight into Russian life while walking through Novodevichy Park. We see memorials to well known people such as Yeltsin, Kruschev, Eisenstein, and Raisa Gorbachova. A fascinating place with memorials ranging from the most modest to the sentimental and outlandish.

  • WARSAW

    • + CHOPIN S WARSAW The spirit of Warsaw and the music of Chopin go hand in hand. This exclusive private recital of his music, performed for you by a celebrated Polish pianist, in the lovely setting of one of Warsaw's old summer palaces is one of the unforgettable memories of this trip. Sparkling wine will be served during the intermission.

    • + POLISH FOLKLORE AND DINNER Poland has a rich culture and famous folk art: enjoy the entertainment of typical music and traditional dance while savouring a 4-course meal of Polish specialities.

  • BERLIN

    • + BERLIN BY NIGHT AND DINNER Tonight join in the fun of hearty German food, wine, beer and music. Afterwards enjoy the illuminated landmarks of the German Capital.

    • + POTSDAM En route to Potsdam, we will stop off at the Wannsee Villa, regularly used by the SS and Nazi Regime for their guests, and the infamous Conference in 1942 to plan the 'Final Solution'. We then tour the Cecilienhof, which witnessed the signing of the treaty which was to change the face of Post-War Europe, leaving East Germany and Eastern Europe to the Soviets. Finally we shall visit the Glienicke Bridge, scene of the Cold War 'Spy Swaps'. (On Mondays when the Cecilienhof is closed we will visit the interior of the Neue Palais.)
