Destination guide: Athens

The mythological goddess Athena standing atop Mount Olympus would undoubtedly look at her city with pride. Basking in the glory of its ancient history of progress, philosophy and Olympic Games, Athens exhibits a range of breathtaking sights and cultural pleasures, unrivalled anywhere in the world.

Hosting the 2004 Olympics attracted visitors from around the world and created an invigorated refurbishment of the city – the first of many steps to reduce the Athenian pollution and transport problem. At first glance, Athens may not have the appeal of its European counterparts, but if you take the time to explore the city, you’ll invariably stumble upon vibrant taverns and outdoor cafés, a melting-pot of middle-eastern and western food culture, and much more.
