On every itinerary, we offer a range of optional excursions that allow you to further enhance your experience should you so choose. These are purchased when you are on your trip, via your Trafalgar Travel Director. Depending on the region visited these can be paid with cash or credit card.

  • ROME

    • + MAGNIFICENT ROME Cameras at the ready for the magnificent sights awaiting us. With our local guide we will discover the many delights that Rome has to offer. These can only be truly appreciated by wandering slowly through the labyrinth of narrow streets and beautiful squares which have developed over more than 2000 years, creating an amazing legacy for us today. The Pantheon and the Trevi Fountain are just two of the fine monuments en route. Later you will have free time to eat at the Trattoria of your choice in one of the piazzas.

    • + ROMAN EVENING WITH DINNER A light hearted evening in Rome. We will relax and enjoy a typical Italian meal (drinks included), while live musicians entertain us. To complete our evening, we will drive along the Via Veneto, a location made famous by the film 'La Dolce Vita' and see how the Romans enjoy their city. A wonderful end to our day.

  • FLORENCE

    • + FLORENTINE DINNER WITH ENTERTAINMENT Sample the flavours of medieval Florence, during an evening of good food and music at a distinctive historic venue. (Subject to availability).

    • + LUNCH OR DINNER WINE AND MUSIC IN THE TUSCAN HILLS Take a scenic drive through the beautiful Tuscan countryside to a delightful regional restaurant set among the pines and cypress trees. Here a feast of gastronomic specialities awaits, accompanied by song and music.

    • + JEWELS OF THE RENAISSANCE A guided tour of the Accademia allows us to appreciate the most famous and beautiful sculpture in Italy, Michelangelo's David, the symbol of Renaissance Man. Nothing can match the experience of meeting this masterpiece in person.

  • VENICE

    • + CANALS OF VENICE An unforgettable introduction to this unique and magical city! We cruise along the Grand Canal by private water taxi, admiring the magnificent and elegant palazzos. We see the Rialto Bridge and then reach 'the most beautiful outdoor drawing room in the world', St Mark's Square. Later during your Gondola Ride, you will glide along the picturesque smaller canals, sipping Italian champagne while a duo of musicians entertains.

    • + LAGOON CRUISE WITH LUNCH OR DINNER Take some time off the beaten track! We are taken by private boat to the nearby islands in the lagoon of Venice. See the island of Murano where the glass blowers live. Lunch or dinner is taken at the picturesque 'Island of the fishermen', Burano, famous for its multicoloured houses and a photographer's paradise. Drinks are also included.

    • + MAJESTIC VENICE Explore hidden parts of the maze of streets which make up this unique city. Your local guide will give you fascinating insights into Venice's past and present, through the eyes of a local. A visit to the majestic basilica of St Mark reveals some of its treasures. Behind closed doors we will view some of the prized trophies looted by the Venetians in their rise to power, or alternatively we will visit the outside terrace for exceptional vistas of this remarkable city on water.

  • PALERMO

    • + SFERRACAVALLO AND LUNCH OR DINNER We drive to the coast of Sicily to arrive at the quaint fishing village of Sferracavallo. Here we will be introduced to a superb Fishermens' feast with wine and soft drinks included.

    • + JEWELS OF SICILY A panoramic drive through verdant forest with spectacular views over the city of Palermo, brings us to the summit of Mount Pellegrino. Here we visit the grotto of Santa Rosalia, Palermo's patron saint, with its traditional offerings and devotions. Then a drive along the blue coastal highway brings us to the quaint medieval village of Cefalu. Here we stroll from the long golden beaches into the winding Arab streets. Back in Palermo, we visit one of the most famous and colourful markets with its stalls of olives and spices. An opportunity to enjoy picturesque Sicilian everyday life.

  • TAORMINA

    • + SICILIAN EVENING WITH DINNER A fantastic 'Sicilian' evening with a delicious dinner of Southern Italian specialities, with musical entertainment.

    • + SICILIAN HIGHLIGHTS MT ETNA SAVOCA AND THE GODFATHER Enter the old rustic village life of Sicily with our local guide, as we visit Savoca, the town also chosen by Francis F Coppola for his movie 'The Godfather'. Enjoy the stunning views and visit Vitelli's bar used in one of the scenes of the film and famous for its tasty, ice cold, 'granite di limone'. Then up Mt Etna, the famous volcano, the only one active in the whole of Europe. You will have time to photograph the spectacular scenery before our return descent to Taormina.

  • SORRENTO

    • + TRADITIONAL NEAPOLITAN EVENING Our beautiful drive takes us into the Sorrentino countryside to arrive at an 18th century Olive Oil mill where we enjoy a guided visit of the gardens, the mill and an ancient wine cellar. We will be served a simple meal including the famous Pizza and wine. Throughout the evening, there will be a demonstration of how Mozzarella cheese and pizza are made.

    • + DINNER AND ENTERTAINMENT A variety of Neapolitan specialities will be served in this family run restaurant, with wine, local live entertainment and a demonstration of the famous Tarantella dance.

    • + POSITANO AND THE AMALFI DRIVE Using private mini-buses, we drive along the famous Amalfi Coast in order to visit the exclusive artists' paradise of Positano, magnificently positioned on the Mediterranean coast.

  • AMALFI

    • + CAPRI HIGHLIGHTS Amazing views are in store as we tour the famous 'jet-set' island of Capri. Our excursion includes a cruise around the island to view the famous Faraglioni rocks, and a visit to the villa of Swedish author Axel Munthe, whose gardens are rated amongst the finest in Europe. Private mini buses take us to Anacapri (top of the island), a photographer's dream. (In the event of bad weather a light lunch in a local restaurant will replace the cruise.)
