On every itinerary, we offer a range of optional excursions that allow you to further enhance your experience should you so choose. These are purchased when you are on your trip, via your Trafalgar Travel Director. Depending on the region visited these can be paid with cash or credit card.

  • LISBON

    • + SINTRA CASCAIS AND THE ESTORIL COAST We leave Lisbon for the slopes of the Sierra de Sintra, an area studded with palaces. After visiting an impressive palace, we see the fashionable resort of Estoril before returning to Lisbon by way of the quaint fishing village of Cascais.

    • + SEAFOOD DINNER BY THE TAGUS RIVER Take a ferry across the mighty Tagus River and enjoy typical Portuguese seafood and fish specialities at a local restaurant. After dinner cross the impressive Suspension Bridge for a sweeping view over the Portuguese capital.

    • + FADO WITH DINNER An evening's entertainment Portuguese style. Savour a typical meal with local aperitifs and wines. Then relish the opportunity of watching the Portuguese demonstrate their folk dancing before listening to the unequalled 'Fado' singing.

  • ALGARVE

    • + REGIONAL DINNER Taste the unique feature of Algarve cuisine - The Cataplana. Simply delicious, authentic local dinner with other specialities.

    • + FARO AND ALMANSIL EXCURSION With our local guide, we leave our hotel for Faro, the historical capital of the Algarve, to visit the old walled town and to have some time for souvenir shopping. Then, on to Almansil, for one of the Algarve's best kept secrets - the Chapel of St. Lawrence.

  • EVORA

    • + MONSARAZ AND THE DEEP ALENTEJO DRIVE Our local guide takes us through vineyards and groves of cork oaks to charming Monsaraz, one of the most famous and beautiful 'white villages' of the Alentejo, inhabited since prehistory. See the castle which overlooks Spain, guarding the ancient borderlands, and views of the largest artificial lake in Europe. A break where typical local refreshments will be served is included.

  • VISEU

    • + INSUA MANOR FOOD AND WINE PAIRING EXPERIENCE Ínsua is in the heart of the famous Dao wine region. A short drive will take us to the spectacular Casa da Ínsua, an 18th century manor house and estate, for a gourmet experience matching local food with the different types of local wine.

  • OPORTO

    • + DOURO CRUISE AND DINNER Enjoy a leisurely cruise along the Douro River with its five bridges and its Port wine warehouses. Then savour a typical meal in the Ribeira Quarter.
