On every itinerary, we offer a range of optional excursions that allow you to further enhance your experience should you so choose. These are purchased when you are on your trip, via your Trafalgar Travel Director. Depending on the region visited these can be paid with cash or credit card.


A reduction of 25% of the cost of the Optional Excursions is offered to all children under the age of 16 years at the time of travel. Please Note: This discount to does not apply to North America optionals, as they are already discounted.

  • AMSTERDAM

    • + Canal Cruise And Sailors Quarter Enjoy a relaxing private cruise through the canals of Amsterdam in our glass roofed boat, to see the areas that our coach cannot reach. View the great merchant houses and historical churches of its golden era. Also included is a guided walking tour with a local expert through the colourful Red Light District with its famous coffee houses and notorious window shopping. The best way to see this cosmopolitan city.

  • PARIS

    • + Dinner And Hidden Gems Of Paris Spend an evening discovering one of the areas of Paris made famous by artists, writers and students over the centuries, followed by a memorable dinner in typical Parisian style with drinks included.

    • + Moulin Rouge Cabaret And Dinner Dinner and cabaret, including wine and champagne, at the world famous Moulin Rouge – the original Paris cabaret – immortalized by the homonymous award-winning film and featuring 60 dancers and entertainers and over 1000 costumes!

    • + Notre Dame And Latin Quarter We begin by visiting the cornerstone of Gothic architecture in France built in 1163, the magnificent cathedral that lies at the heart of Paris, Notre Dame. Then with our Local Guide explore the Latin Quarter. Enjoy some free time to have a bite to eat in the Latin Quarter, or perhaps try the famous Berthillon ice-cream - the best in France!

    • + Nouvelle Eve Cabaret And Dinner Dinner with wine included at one of the most prestigious cabaret shows in town! Enjoy an evening of exciting acts, stunning tableaux and wonderful entertainment - including, of course, the world famous Can-Can. A Parisian night that you will never forget!

    • + Seine Cruise And Paris By Night Paris at night is a city transformed. Enjoy this superb 'city of light' as we take a leisurely cruise on the popular river boats under the bridges of Paris, admiring the wonderful buildings which adorn the banks of the River Seine. Afterwards, as we drive through this amazing city, we stop at some vantage points for you to capture these fascinating sights on camera. (In summer, this trip may take place before sunset).

    • + Versailles - The Palace And Gardens We leave the bustle of the city for the splendour of Versailles. Created by the Sun King Louis XIV, the palace became the envy of every other European ruler. Our guide takes us through the State apartments, including the famous Hall of Mirrors. Afterwards, take a stroll through the symmetrical tree-lined gardens. (N.B.:This optional is subject to availability.)

  • FLORENCE

    • + Dinner Wine And Music In The Tuscan Hills Take a scenic drive through the beautiful Tuscan countryside to a delightful regional restaurant set among the pines and cypress trees. Here a feast of gastronomic specialities awaits, accompanied by song and music.

    • + Michelangelos David A guided insight into the world of genius Michelangelo and his masterpiece "David". We enter the Academy of Fine Arts by a preferential reserved entrance and our visit focuses on Michelangelo and his groundbreaking and beautiful sculpture.

  • LUCERNE

    • + Folklore Evening And Dinner Tonight we shall enjoy a tasty Swiss meal (one of the courses will be the famous Swiss cheese fondue) in a typical restaurant. Whilst you enjoy dinner, join in the fun of a lively folklore show which includes yodelling, flag-throwing, Alpine horn-blowing and many other customary Swiss entertainment. Two drinks are included.

    • + Mount Stanserhorn And Lake Cruise We begin with a scenic cruise across Lake Lucerne to the village of Stans, terminal of one of Switzerland's oldest mountain railways. We climb to the top by old-timer railway and exciting new Cabrio cable car to reach 1900 m (6300 feet), an excellent vantage from which to view the breathtaking scenery of Alpine Switzerland. Free time to take in the air and perhaps some refreshments before we descend to rejoin our coach. (On certain departures this optional may be operated in reverse, ending with the cruise.)

  • INNSBRUCK

    • + Horse And Carriage Ride A spectacular drive leads us to a typical mountain village. Then we enjoy a horse drawn carriage ride through the magnificent alpine scenery. We stop for an included drink at a traditional Tyrolean Gasthof before our return to Innsbruck.

  • ROME

    • + Introduction To Rome And Piazza Navona Cameras at the ready for the many magnificent sights awaiting us as we 'do as the Romans do' and take an evening 'passegiata', or evening stroll. With our licensed Local Guide we will discover the many delights that Rome has to offer. These can only be truly appreciated by wandering slowly through the labyrinth of narrow streets and beautiful squares which have developed over many centuries, creating an amazing legacy for us today like the Pantheon, and Piazza Navona, with its lively cafes.

    • + Roman Evening With Dinner A light hearted evening in Rome. We will relax and enjoy a typical Italian meal (drinks included), while live musicians entertain us. To complete our evening, we will drive along the Via Veneto, a location made famous by the film 'La Dolce Vita' and see how the Romans enjoy their city. A wonderful end to our day.

    • + Vatican Museums And Colosseum An extension to the included sightseeing tour which allows us to admire the artistic masterpieces collected and commissioned by the Popes and displayed in the Vatican Museums. See the famous Tapestry Gallery and Gallery of Maps then finally wonder at the masterpieces in the Sistine Chapel. Take your time - Michelangelo spent 11 years in the preparation of the vault and altar wall! Later we will enjoy an interior visit of the Colosseum, scene of many gladiatorial combats.

  • VENICE

    • + Lagoon Cruise With Lunch or Dinner Take some time off the beaten track! We are taken by private boat to the nearby islands in the lagoon of Venice. See the island of Murano where the glass blowers live. Lunch or dinner is taken at the picturesque ‘Island of the fishermen’, Burano, famous for its multi-coloured houses and a photographer's paradise. Drinks are also included.

    • + Venetian Magic An unforgettable introduction to this unique and magical city! We cruise along the Grand Canal by private water taxi, admiring the magnificent and elegant palazzos. We see the Rialto Bridge and then reach 'the most beautiful outdoor drawing room in the world', St Mark's Square. Later during your Gondola Ride, you will glide along the picturesque smaller canals while a duo of musicians entertains.

  • SORRENTO

    • + Pompeii A guided tour of the excavations of Pompeii, the perfectly preserved Roman town which was engulfed by the eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79. A unique opportunity to glimpse a moment of Roman everyday life, frozen for over 2000 years.

    • + Positano And The Amalfi Drive Using private mini-buses, we drive along the famous Amalfi Coast in order to visit the exclusive artists' paradise of Positano, magnificently positioned on the Mediterranean coast.

  • NICE

    • + St Paul de Vence Corniche Drive And Dinner First to the medieval hill top town of St. Paul de Vence to visit this artists paradise. We continue along the Riviera, traveling on the Basse, Moyenne and Grande corniche roads with their spectacular views to a characteristic restaurant for a delicious meal including drinks.
