Hopping onto your coach or taking you for a walk around their neighbourhood, you suddenly feel like you could have lived there for years yourself. When asked, they readily share their tips for where to shop, eat or just stroll with the locals, so you can seamlessly fit in as you explore in your free time. And you experience European rural life too, returning to nature for two nights in Slovenia's scenic Lake Bled.

On every itinerary, we offer a range of optional excursions that allow you to further enhance your experience should you so choose. These are purchased when you are on your trip, via your Trafalgar Travel Director. Depending on the region visited these can be paid with cash or credit card.


A reduction of 25% of the cost of the Optional Excursions is offered to all children under the age of 16 years at the time of travel. Please Note: This discount to does not apply to North America optionals, as they are already discounted.

  • BLED

    • + The Castle And Lake Bled First we drive up to the 1000 year old castle from where we enjoy magnificent views of Lake Bled, and where we will visit its ancient interior. Later we take a traditional 'Pletna' boat for a short cruise to the only island in the lake, where we visit the Church of St. Mary's with its wishing bell.

    • + Alpine Jewels And Lake Bohinj A half-day visit to the largest glacier lake in Slovenia situated in the region of the Julian Alps mountain range, with the highest Slovene peak (Mt. Triglav) rising above it. We will see mountain villages and make a photo stop in Studor, famous for its wooden hayracks, before reaching Lake Bohinj. We will drive along the lake shore to take a ride by cable car up Mt Vogel (1600m), from where we enjoy the beautiful tranquil scenery of the mountains and valley. Later there will be time to relax beside the lake, view the statue of the four mountaineers who first conquered the Triglav and visit St John's Church, adorned with 13th century frescoes before returning to Bled.

    • + Visit To The Postojna Caves Deep beneath the Slovenian Karst lies the magnificent underground world of limestone caves. Shaped by nature over millions of years and included on the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites, these caves are visited by thousands every year. During our 90 minute guided tour, we are first taken by electric mini-train through a maze of mysterious underground corridors before exploring the vast caverns with their natural limestone sculptures on foot.

  • ZAGREB

    • + Kumrovec And Lunch A short yet scenic drive out of Zagreb brings us to the typical Croatian village of Kumrovec, a real jewel of Croatian architecture and birthplace of the late President of Yugoslavia, Marshall Tito. His house, now a museum, contains many original photos and documents, recalling his turbulent life. Later we enjoy a lunch of local specialities in a picturesque restaurant with magnificent views of the Croatian countryside.

  • BUDAPEST

    • + Danube Cruise With Dinner Enjoy a scenic cruise on our private boat on the romantic Danube - savour a tasty dinner selection of Hungarian specialities with drinks included. Be amazed at Budapest's spectacular illuminations and understand why the city is also known as "The Paris of the East".

    • + Wonders Of Budapest Explore the architectural wonders of Budapest; the magnificent Parliament, symbol of the city and one of the most beautiful buildings in Europe, then on to St Stephen's Basilica, Hungarian national treasure, followed by the courtyards of the fairytale Vajdahunyad Castle. Time to relax with a visit to the world famous Gundel restaurant for pancakes and drinks, then off again for some fun shopping for beautiful Hungarian embroideries or other souvenirs in the enormous Market Hall, or take a stroll along the elegant Vaci Utca.

  • KRAKOW

    • + Farmhouse Dinner And Polka Party Poland has a rich culture and famous folk art. Enjoy the entertainment of typical music and traditional dance while savouring a four-course meal of Polish specialities.

    • + Wieliczka Salt Mines Visit the greatest tourist attraction in the south of Poland. The salt mine is over 800 years old. The chambers are filled with absolutely unique salt sculptures recalling famous fairy tales. See the chambers of the good ghost of the mine and the seven dwarfs. Visit the chapel of the last supper and many other biblical scenes. Wonder at the glittering chandeliers of pure crystal salt.

  • WARSAW

    • + Chopin s Warsaw The spirit of Warsaw and the music of Chopin go hand in hand. This exclusive private recital of his music, performed for you by a celebrated Polish pianist, in the lovely setting of one of Warsaws old summer palaces is one of the unforgettable memories of this trip. Sparkling wine will be served during the intermission.

    • + Wilanow Palace This splendid baroque palace, as impressive as Versailles, was built in the late 17th century as a summer palace for King Jan Sobieski III. Its collection of royal furniture, portraits and china forms part of the National Museum, and in the palace grounds theres the Museum of the Polish Poster.

  • BERLIN

    • + Berlin s Secret Past From the Holocaust Memorial and the nearby site of Hitler's Bunker, we visit a remaining section of the Berlin Wall, followed by a stop at the Bendler Block, the Memorial to the Resistance Movement, to learn about the plot by Graf von Stauffenberg. His heroic efforts to assassinate Hitler were portrayed by Tom Cruise in 'Valkyrie'. Finally we visit the Topography of Terror, an outdoor documentary located on the former site of the Gestapo HQ.

    • + Berlin By Night And Dinner Join in the fun of hearty German food, wine, beer and music. Afterwards enjoy the illuminated landmarks of the German Capital.

  • PRAGUE

    • + Prague By Night An evening introduction to this fairy tale city by private mini-bus or tram and on foot, with a local guide. A comfortable ride brings us from our hotel to a point close to the Magical Charles Bridge. After a crossing on foot (weather permitting), a short ride brings us the Old Town Square and later to one of the quaint restaurants in the old town where we will enjoy a drink and a small snack while a musician entertains. Finally a panoramic view over the city before returning with our coach to the hotel. (N.B.:This tour may be operated in reverse, starting with the viewpoint.)

    • + Vltava Cruise Lunch Or Dinner Take a relaxing cruise on the beautiful River Vltava and learn more about the legends, myths, culture and hidden secrets of this enchanting city, while enjoying a lunch or dinner of local specialties.

    • + Prague By Night - Walking Tour An evening introduction to this fairytale city on a walking tour with a local guide. We meander through the old city to the Magical Charles Bridge. Then we enjoy drinks and music in one of the quaint restaurants in the old town.

  • VIENNA

    • + Viennese Concert A wonderful concert of Viennese classical music including some of the most famous works of Johann Strauss and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, performed by some of the most highly acclaimed soloists and dancers in Austria. We provide you with 'A Class' tickets and a complimentary glass of local champagne during the interval.
