On every itinerary, we offer a range of optional excursions that allow you to further enhance your experience should you so choose. These are purchased when you are on your trip, via your Trafalgar Travel Director. Depending on the region visited these can be paid with cash or credit card.

  • VIENNA

    • + VIENNESE CONCERT A wonderful concert of Viennese classical music including some of the most famous works of Johann Strauss and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, performed by some of the most highly acclaimed soloists and dancers in Austria. We provide you with 'A Class' tickets and a complimentary glass of local champagne during the interval.

    • + DINNER AND VIENNESE CONCERT We will enjoy a delicious meal of Viennese specialities, with drinks, followed by a wonderful concert of Viennese classical music including some of the most famous works of Johann Strauss and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, performed by some of the most highly acclaimed soloists and dancers in Austria. We provide you with 'A Class' tickets and a complimentary glass of local champagne during the interval.

    • + EXCURSION TO BRATISLAVA Visit Bratislava, capital city of the Slovak Republic, stretching along both banks of the Danube River. During the 9th Century, the Great Moravian Empire centered their military, religious and administrative activities in the Bratislava Castle. This beautiful baroque city is well preserved; it was the scene of the coronation of Empress Maria Teresia; Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart gave one of his first concerts here at the age of six. You will enjoy a guided tour through the city and the Castle.

  • BLED

    • + THE CASTLE AND LAKE BLED First we drive up to the 1000 year old castle from where we enjoy magnificent views of Lake Bled, and where we will visit it's ancient interior. Later we take a traditional 'Pletna' boat for a short cruise to the only island in the lake, where we visit the Church of St. Mary's with its wishing bell.

    • + VISIT TO THE POSTOJNA CAVES Deep beneath the Slovenian Karst lies the magnificent underground world of limestone caves. Shaped by nature over millions of years and included on the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites, these caves are visited by thousands every year. During our 90 minute guided tour, we are first taken by electric mini-train through a maze of mysterious underground corridors before exploring the vast caverns with their natural limestone sculptures on foot.

    • + ALPINE JEWELS AND LAKE BOHINJ A half-day visit to the largest glacier lake in Slovenia situated in the region of the Julian Alps mountain range, with the highest Slovene peak (Mt.Triglav) rising above it. We will see mountain villages and make a photo stop in Studor, famous for its wooden hayracks, before reaching Lake Bohinj. We will drive along the lake shore to take a ride by cable car up Mt Vogel (1600m), from where we enjoy the beautiful tranquil scenery of the mountains and valley. Later there will be time to relax beside the lake, view the statue of the four mountaineers who first conquered the Triglav, and visit St John's Church, adorned with 13th century frescoes, before returning to Bled.

  • HVAR

    • + SIGHTS AND TASTES OF HVAR With our Local Guide we take a scenic road towards Stari Grad, with views of the ancient stone terraces and of Stari Grad Plain - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Reaching Vroboska we stroll through this charming village to the cellars of Vina Pinjata where we will be greeted by the owners. We will taste three wines from their vineyards, accompanied by delicious prsut (dry smoked ham), cheese, homemade fish paté and fresh bread. The owners will give an explanation of their wines. This is a great chance to meet the local people of Hvar Island.

  • DUBROVNIK

    • + SUNSET CRUISE AND DINNER A wonderful sunset cruise takes us along the spectacular Dalmatian coast to one of the secluded bays where we enjoy a delicious and typical local style dinner on board our private boat. We then cruise outside the old city walls as the sun sets and dock in the historic old port. To round off our evening we have time to enjoy the beautiful illuminated old city of Dubrovnik before we return by coach to our hotel. (NB. This optional is weather dependent and may not be available on all departures.)

    • + DALMATIAN DINNER WITH KLAPA SINGERS Should optional DUBT02 not be available, DUBT13 below will be offered as an alternative. Tonight we drive above the amazing city walls, down to the Old Town of Dubrovnik, where a dinner of seafood specialities will be washed down with local wine, in one of the city's best restaurants. Klapa singers will be performing traditional Dalmation songs in their own distinctive style.

    • + PANORAMIC BOAT CRUISE TO CAVTAT First we will cruise along and around the Dubrovnik city walls with views of its' splendid churches and towers and more; this panorama has changed little since the days when visited by Venetian Merchants in the 16th century. Then we cruise along the coast to the picturesque village of Cavtat with magnificent views over Dubrovnik and surrounding areas.

    • + FULL DAY EXCURSION INTO MONTENEGRO We drive south and along the coast into Montenegro - only recently reopened to tourism. After the border we meet our guide, and our first stop will be to view the Bay of Kotor. Next we stop in the town of Kotor, situated on the only fjord on the Adriatic coast, where we have a guided walking tour. Time permitting, we will see the exclusive resort of Sveti Stefan - a private hotel on its own island, on our way to the fortified and picturesque coastal town of Budva. Here we will have a short walking tour and free time for lunch before returning to Dubrovnik. * Please see Visa Information in the General Information section of this document.

  • ZAGREB

    • + KUMROVEC AND LUNCH A short yet scenic drive out of Zagreb brings us to the typical Croatian village of Kumrovec, a real jewel of Croatian architecture and birthplace of the late President of Yugoslavia, Marshall Tito. His house, now a museum, contains many original photos and documents, recalling his turbulent life. Later we enjoy a lunch of local specialities in a picturesque restaurant with magnificent views of the Croatian countryside.
