  • Description: Intriguing cities of central Europe are brought together as locals share their insight on the history and culture of Prague, Vienna and Budapest, with a pause in musical Salzburg too. It's Insider moments like… shivering as you hear about the bravery of two families in wartime Hungary. Walking through a door made from an old wine barrel, you begin your wine tasting at the Schieszl vineyard. Later, Conrad Schieszl explains how his family used that wine barrel to hide their Jewish neighbours during Nazi occupation. And he tells the moving story of how one of the young boys they saved later became a lawyer and helped the Schieszls return to Hungary and buy back their land during the Communist rule in thanks for his life.

    In Munich stop and view the stadium built for the 1972 Olympics and the Marienplatz, with its fascinating Glockenspiel clock. Next visit Regensburg, an unspoilt medieval gem on your way to the Czech Republic. Across the border see Pilsen, renowned for its breweries, before reaching Prague. This exciting city is your home for the next two nights! This evening, join your fellow companions for a Regional Meal at a local restaurant.

  • Day 3


    Prague has prospered since the fall of Communism, and its new-found status and affluence is evident during your guided sightseeing tour of the city with your Local Expert. See the impressive St. Vitus' Cathedral in the grounds of the 1,000 year-old Prague Castle. Cross the river on your walking tour to the Old Town Square to see the Astronomical Clock. Spend the afternoon as you wish. Explore the city on your own, or consider a relaxing lunch cruise on the River Vltava.

  • Day 4


    Visit the Slovak capital Bratislava with its eclectic Gothic, Baroque and Art Deco architecture. Entering Hungary you arrive in Budapest on the banks of the River Danube.

  • Day 5


    Your Local Expert shows you the sights of Budapest featuring views of the famous Chain Bridge, the UNESCO-listed Castle Hill district and a visit to the Fisherman's Bastion. From there enjoy superb views across the Parliament and Danube below. Later, spend time exploring on your own or consider a guided tour of the Parliament. Tonight, experience a Be My Guest Hungarian dinner with local specialities.

  • Day 6


    Crossing the Transdanubia region to Györ is a pleasant drive through beautiful countryside. Stroll through this quaint city, which stands at the confluence of three rivers and features charming Baroque architecture. Later arrive in imperial Vienna where you stay for the next two nights.

  • Day 7


    Admire the Hofburg Palace, the former winter residence of the Hapsburg Dynasty during your enthralling sightseeing tour of Vienna with your Local Expert. See the grand State Opera House, and the Ringstrasse, a beautiful sweeping boulevard built in the 19th century to replace the city walls. View St. Stephen's Cathedral, its ornate roof bearing the imperial emblem of the Hapsburgs. The afternoon is yours to explore the city's many attractions. Later, you might like to attend a classical concert.

    Travel through the UNESCO-designated Wachau Valley, one of the most beautiful river valleys in Europe. See the magnificent Melk Abbey, a masterpiece of baroque architecture, before reaching Salzburg. Meet your Local Expert for a walking tour of this musical city before sampling the delicious Local Speciality of Austrian cakes. Dine tonight at your hotel in the beautiful city of Salzburg.
