Traditional Viennese food is heavy and filling with a strong leaning towards meat. Possibly Vienna’s most famous dish is the Wiener schnitzel (a veal or pork cutlet covered in a coating of egg and breadcrumbs then fried). Popular side dishes include Kartoffelsalat (potato salad) or Knodel (dumplings). Well-known sights on the streets of Vienna are the Wurstelstande (sausage stands)- each sausage is served hot with a chunk of bread and mustard (Senf). You’ll find many coffee houses most serving Austria’s most famous dessert - Strudel. Local beers are very good as are the different variations of Scnapps.
