Things to do in Paris, France
The attractions in Paris are endless. Cutting a line through the city from the Place de la Concorde all the way to the Arc de Triomphe, the Champs Élysées is a broad tree-lined boulevard packed with gorgeous architecture, cinemas, theatres, great shopping and fabulous restaurants. One of the grandest avenues in the world, a visit to Paris is not complete without a wander down this bustling and iconic social centre, to the Arc de Triomphe, that stands proudly at the western end.
To describe the Eiffel Tower as the most iconic feature of the Parisian skyline would somehow still be an understatement. Visitors can climb to the viewing platforms, both of which show the nuts and bolts of just how incredible an achievement this construction is, as well as offering spectacular views across this stunning city. Otherwise, a lift services the two platforms as well as the very top, which is said to feel like it’s swaying underfoot in the wind.
Still widely admired as the bohemian hub of Paris, Montmartre is home to the stunning, white-domed Basilica of Sacré Cœur, standing proudly on the highest point of Montmartre hill. Such famous artists as Salvador Dalí, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso and Vincent van Gogh all had studios in this quaint and picturesque area of Paris.
Situated next to the River Seine in the picturesque 4th arrondissement of Paris is one of the world’s most famous gothic cathedrals of all time – Notre Dame. Meaning 'Our Lady', this breathtaking cathedral is widely praised as one of the finest examples of French gothic architecture ever built.
Sightseeing in Paris is as much about famous monuments as it is the everyday hum of the cafes and bookstores. Whatever time of year, the panache of Paris at street-level is breathtaking. With so much beauty, music and romance, its little wonder Audrey Hepburn once mused that, "Paris is always a good idea."
