Holiday in Berlin – Your guide to Berlin, Germany

What to eat in Berlin?

Traditional food in Berlin is hearty and satisfying using ingredients local to the area such as pork, goose, cabbage, turnips and beans. Some popular Berlin dishes include:

  1. Kartoffelpuffer: These potato pancakes pan-fried until crispy and golden brown are eaten as both a savoury dish with meats and sauces or a sweet dish with applesauce or other fruit.
  2. Berliner: When JFK famously said “ich bin ein Berliner” little did he know he was describing himself as a jelly doughnut! These tasty treats come with a variety of fruit or cream fillings and are best eaten warm.
  3. Eisbein: Known in English as pork knuckle, this tasty dish is slow roasted or boiled until the meat is tender and full of flavour. A perfect winter warmer.
  4. Königsberger Klopse: Yummy meat dumplings made from ground veal, beef or pork served with a creamy lemon sauce and capers.
  5. Currywurst: Germany is famous for its love of sausages, or wurst, and the wurst of choice in Berlin is the Currywurst, a pork sausage sprinkled with curry powder and ketchup that is available from street stands all over the city.
