What to buy in Berlin?
If you’re after great Berlin shopping, head straight for the Kurfürstendamm, or Ku’damm as it’s locally known. A high concentration of designer boutiques, big fashion houses and car showrooms ensure this is the epicentre of shopping in Berlin.
You can’t leave the city without a memento of Berlin’s crosswalk men, the Ampelmann. Originating in East Germany in 1961, the cute little figures were supposed to disappear after reunification, but the people loved them so much they protested their removal and a ‘committee for the preservation of the Ampelmann’ was founded. You can now buy everything from t-shirts to umbrellas emblazoned with the iconic green and red little men at the dedicated shop in Potsdamer Platz.
