What to eat in Olympia?

Food in Olympia is based on traditional Greek cuisine and features fantastically fresh vegetables and herbs, lamb, seafood and cheese. Some of the local delicacies you can sample on your Olympia holiday are:

  1. Kolokythoanthoi: This delicate appetiser consists of zucchini flowers stuffed with rice or cheese and herbs, sometimes served with a yoghurt based dipping sauce.
  2. Fasolada: Sometimes described as the national food of the Greeks, this soup of beans, tomatoes, carrot, celery and olive oil is such a classic it is a must-try on any Greek holiday.
  3. Garides Saganaki: Based on the popular dish of fried kefalotyri or graviera cheese, this variation is covered with shrimp in a spicy tomato sauce.
  4. Paidakia: You can’t visit Greece without tasting the lamb and this is probably the simplest and most delicious way to enjoy it. Paidakia is basically lamb chops grilled with oregano, lemon, salt and pepper.
  5. Loukoumades: Similar in consistency to donuts, this delicious dessert is little fried dumplings drenched in honey and sprinkled with cinnamon.
