Facts About Oslo

Dried, smoked and salted preserved foods are common in Norway, mainly due to the country’s cold climate and minimal fertile arable soil. Potatoes, bread and fish are also staples of the Norwegian diet.

Breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day usually consisting of whole wheat bread with cheese, cold meats and jam. Geitost – a sweet caramel flavoured goats cheese is a particular abundant on breakfast menus.

Popular dinner dishes include kjøttkaker -  meatballs and gravy and lapskaus a traditional meat stew.
