Optionals

On every itinerary, we offer a range of optional excursions that allow you to further enhance your experience should you so choose. These are purchased when you are on your trip, via your Trafalgar Travel Director. Depending on the region visited these can be paid with cash or credit card.

  • ITALIAN LAKES

    • + VILLAS OF LAKE COMO We drive along the shores of Lake Como. Here we board our private launch for a leisurely cruise past the most elegant villas and gardens of this region - arguably the most beautiful spot in the Italian Lake District.

  • AMALFI

    • + CAPRI HIGHLIGHTS Amazing views are in store as we tour the famous 'jet-set' island of Capri. Our excursion includes a cruise around the island to view the famous Faraglioni rocks, and a visit to the villa of Swedish author Axel Munthe, whose gardens are rated amongst the finest in Europe. Private mini buses take us to Anacapri (top of the island), a photographer's dream. (In the event of bad weather a light lunch in a local restaurant will replace the cruise.)

  • FLORENCE

    • + JEWELS OF THE RENAISSANCE A guided tour of the Accademia allows us to appreciate the most famous and beautiful sculpture in Italy, Michelangelo's David, the symbol of Renaissance Man. Nothing can match the experience of meeting this masterpiece in person.

    • + LUNCH OR DINNER WINE AND MUSIC IN THE TUSCAN HILLS Take a scenic drive through the beautiful Tuscan countryside to a delightful regional restaurant set among the pines and cypress trees. Here a feast of gastronomic specialities awaits, accompanied by song and music.

    • + FLORENTINE DINNER WITH ENTERTAINMENT Sample the flavours of medieval Florence, during an evening of good food and music at a distinctive historic venue. (Subject to availability).

    • + VISIT TO SAN GIMIGNANO We drive to the nearby hilltop town of San Gimignano, the 'medieval Manhattan' of Tuscany. Surrounded by fields of sunflowers, vineyards and olive groves, this is Italy's best preserved medieval city and will give you an excellent idea of daily life in Italy during the Middle Ages.

  • MILAN

    • + TREASURES OF MILAN With a local city guide we visit some of this bustling city's most famous sights. First we enter the impressive Castello Sforza - today one of the country's most important museums, where we see the 'Pieta of Rondanini' by Michelangelo among other great works. Then we continue to the world renowned 'La Scala' opera house and museum. (Should either La Scala or the Castello be unavailable, there will be a visit to the remarkable Museum of Milan.)

  • ROME

    • + ANCIENT AND MAGNIFICENT ROME AND THE SEVEN HILLS Your local guide will take you through 2000 years of the most fascinating sights of this incredible city. We will incorporate the seven hills of Rome, the famous Appian Way (Quo Vadis), Caracalla Baths, and a visit to the Catacombs. Then stroll through the historical centre to see the Pantheon, hidden secrets, famous fountains and piazzas. These are just some of the Must See sights which you will experience on this inspiring tour of Rome.

  • SORRENTO

    • + POSITANO AND THE AMALFI DRIVE Using private mini-buses, we drive along the famous Amalfi Coast in order to visit the exclusive artists' paradise of Positano, magnificently positioned on the Mediterranean coast.

  • VENICE

    • + CANALS OF VENICE An unforgettable introduction to this unique and magical city! We cruise along the Grand Canal by private water taxi, admiring the magnificent and elegant palazzos. We see the Rialto Bridge and then reach 'the most beautiful outdoor drawing room in the world', St Mark's Square. Later during your Gondola Ride, you will glide along the picturesque smaller canals, sipping Italian champagne while a duo of musicians entertains.

    • + LAGOON CRUISE WITH LUNCH OR DINNER Take some time off the beaten track! We are taken by private boat to the nearby islands in the lagoon of Venice. See the island of Murano where the glass blowers live. Lunch or dinner is taken at the picturesque 'Island of the fishermen', Burano, famous for its multicoloured houses and a photographer's paradise. Drinks are also included.

    • + MAJESTIC VENICE Explore hidden parts of the maze of streets which make up this unique city. Your local guide will give you fascinating insights into Venice's past and present, through the eyes of a local. A visit to the majestic basilica of St Mark reveals some of its treasures. Behind closed doors we will view some of the prized trophies looted by the Venetians in their rise to power, or alternatively we will visit the outside terrace for exceptional vistas of this remarkable city on water.
