Optionals

On every itinerary, we offer a range of optional excursions that allow you to further enhance your experience should you so choose. These are purchased when you are on your trip, via your Trafalgar Travel Director. Depending on the region visited these can be paid with cash or credit card.

  • LUCERNE

    • + MOUNT STANSERHORN AND LAKE CRUISE We begin with a scenic cruise across Lake Lucerne to the village of Stans, terminal of one of Switzerland's oldest mountain railways. We climb to the top by old-timer railway and exciting new CabriOR cable car to reach 6,300 feet - an excellent vantage from which to view the breathtaking scenery of Alpine Switzerland. Free time to take in the air and perhaps some refreshment before we descend to rejoin our coach. (On certain departures this optional may be operated in reverse, ending with the cruise.)

    • + FOLKLORE SHOW WITH LUNCH Join in the fun of a lively folklore show with typical Swiss entertainment. Enjoy a delicious lunch (including cheese fondue) and one drink as we listen to yodelling and Alpine horn blowing.

    • + SWISS HERITAGE A chance to meet the Swiss, as local farmers take us on a delightful countryside tour in horse drawn carriages. Enjoy stunning scenery as we trot around a typical rural community, en route to a working farm where local drinks and snacks will be served.

  • AMSTERDAM

    • + DINNER IN AN HISTORIC DUTCH HOUSE AND CANAL CRUISE Savour a meal of Dutch specialities in elegant surroundings, drinks included. Later we board our private boat and glide gently along the canals, past town-houses built right on the water's edge and under picturesque bridges.

    • + CANAL CRUISE AND SAILORS QUARTER Enjoy a relaxing private cruise through the canals of Amsterdam in our glass roofed boat, to see the areas that our coach cannot reach. View the great merchant houses and historical churches of its golden era. Also included is a guided walking tour with a local expert through the colourful Red Light District with its famous coffee houses and notorious window shopping. The best way to see this cosmopolitan city.

    • + DUTCH VILLAGE VISIT AND DINNER This afternoon we leave the bustle of the city and make our way to the picturesque and traditional village of Volendam, on the Ijsselmeer. Visit a farm where cheese and clogs are still made using traditional methods. Later, toast our new-found friends as we enjoy a typical meal of Dutch specialities in an atmospheric old-world setting. Drinks are included.

  • PRAGUE

    • + PRAGUE BY NIGHT WITH DINNER CRUISE Enjoy your introduction to Prague. Firstly, an evening river cruise through the Old City, with dinner and drinks included, shows us the beautifully illuminated medieval architecture. Then we go on to explore the narrow and romantic streets on foot. With our local guide we cross the famous Charles Bridge, before returning to our hotel. (Without the post-cruise walking tour: Euro 46)

    • + DINNER EVENING An evening of musical entertainment and good food in a local restaurant, not to be missed.

  • VENICE

    • + VENETIAN MAGIC An unforgettable introduction to this unique and magical city! We cruise along the Grand Canal by private water taxi, admiring the magnificent and elegant palazzos. We see the Rialto Bridge and then reach 'the most beautiful outdoor drawing room in the world', St Mark's Square. Later during your Gondola Ride, you will glide along the picturesque smaller canals, sipping Italian champagne while a duo of musicians entertains. (with a drink in one of the historic cafes on St Mark's Square instead of during the gondola ride - Euro 73)

    • + GONDOLA SERENADE An ideal introduction to this unique and magical city. Enjoy a romantic gondola journey along canals full of character and colour, while musicians and singers entertain. See the interior of the city with its magnificent and elegant palaces, witnesses of the past splendours of the 'Serenissima'.

    • + LAGOON CRUISE WITH LUNCH OR DINNER Take some time off the beaten track! We are taken by private boat to the nearby islands in the lagoon of Venice. See the island of Murano where the glass blowers live. Lunch or dinner is taken at the picturesque 'Island of the fishermen', Burano, famous for its multicoloured houses and a photographer's paradise. Drinks are also included.

  • PARIS

    • + SEINE CRUISE AND PARIS BY NIGHT Paris at night is a city transformed. Enjoy this superb 'city of light' as we take a leisurely cruise on the popular river boats under the bridges of Paris, admiring the wonderful buildings which adorn the banks of the River Seine. Afterwards, as we drive through this amazing city, we stop at some vantage points for you to capture these fascinating sights on camera. (In summer, this trip may take place before sunset).

    • + VERSAILLES - THE PALACE, GARDENS AND FOUNTAINS * We leave the bustle of the city for the splendour of Versailles. Created by the “Sun King” Louis XIV, the palace became the envy of every other European ruler. Our guide takes us through the State apartments, including the famous Hall of Mirrors. Afterwards, take a stroll through the symmetrical tree-lined gardens while the fountains play. (NB. This optional is subject to availability).

    • + MOULIN ROUGE CABARET AND DINNER Dinner and Cabaret, including wine and champagne, at the world famous Moulin Rouge - the original Paris cabaret - immortalized by the recent award winning film and featuring 60 dancers and entertainers and over 1000 costumes!

    • + NOUVELLE EVE CABARET AND DINNER Dinner with wines included at one of the most prestigious cabaret shows in town! Enjoy an evening of exciting acts, stunning tableaux and wonderful entertainment - including, of course, the world famous Can-Can. A Parisian night that you will never forget!

    • + DINNER AND HIDDEN GEMS OF PARIS Spend an evening discovering one of the areas of Paris made famous by artists, writers and students over the centuries, followed by a memorable dinner in typical Parisian style, drinks included.
