Optionals

On every itinerary, we offer a range of optional excursions that allow you to further enhance your experience should you so choose. These are purchased when you are on your trip, via your Trafalgar Travel Director. Depending on the region visited these can be paid with cash or credit card.

  • ATHENS

    • + CAPE SOUNION Take a relaxing trip down to the southernmost tip of Mainland Greece to see the fifth century B.C Temple of Poseidon at Sounion. See if you can spot where Byron carved his initials on one of the temple's sixteen columns. Marvel at the sheer rugged beauty of the coastline and the ancient temple perched above a 197-foot drop down to the Aegean Sea below. Stand above the site of the world's first lighthouse, overlooking an area steeped in classical Greek history, ever since the tragic king Aegeas threw himself from the rocky precipice into the sea below, thereby giving his name to the Aegean Sea.

    • + TRADITIONAL GREEK TAVERNA MEAL WITH ENTERTAINMENT This is an evening excursion to a taverna in the centre of Athens. Excellent traditional Greek food in a lively atmosphere, entertained through dances and music from all parts of the country. Wine, beer and soft drinks are also included. Although the venue does have an official ending time, clients are more than welcome to stay on in the taverna, to join in with the local residents! (Casual dress)

    • + WALKING TOUR AND DINNER IN PSIRI This is an evening excursion including a stroll around the Acropolis on the finest pedestrian street in Athens centre and a memorable dinner in a restaurant located in the lively area of Psiri. Dining is "meze style", giving you the opportunity to taste many modern Greek dishes. Psiri is within walking distance from the Plaka area.

  • MYKONOS

    • + ISLAND TOUR A walking tour through Mykonos town, starting from Fabrika Square, takes us to 'Tria Pigadia' (three wells), through 'Matogianni', the main shopping area, on to the local market and then to the harbour. We continue our walk to 'Paraportiani Church' and after that we go to 'Little Venice' and the windmills. We return to Fabrika Square where our bus tour will take us to some of the most beautiful beaches of this most famous Greek island. The first stop is in Plati Yalos, one of the most protected and organised beaches on the south coast. The next stop is in Ornos beach with its little fishing harbour. We then drive on to the bay of Agios Ioannis where we visit the little double church, which gave its name to the bay, and offers a fantastic view of Delos. Then we leave the south coast, driving past Korfos and Megali Ammos to arrive at Agios Stefanos beach for a photo stop and driving over the new peripheral road we visit the village of Ano Mera with its cosy square and the monk's monastery "Panagia Tourliani". We continue on to Kalafatis beach, famous for its relaxed atmosphere before drive back to Mykonos town where the tour ends in Fabrika square.

    • + PARADISE CRUISE A mini-cruise on a fishing-boat will give you the opportunity to enjoy the sight of some of the island's most spectacular bays, from the sea. Sailing along Mykonos's, southern coast, you will pass the beaches Paranga, Paradise, Super Paradise, Agrari, Elia and Kalafatis and reach the island of Dragonissi. If the weather permits the boat will enter the caves where there will be free time to swim and snorkel. Otherwise the alternative beaches for the free time will be Frangias or a small private beach on Dragonissi. Next stop is the beach of Kalo Livadi for lunch (included). After lunch you can swim in the crystal clear waters of the Aegean Sea, explore the sea bottom with mask and snorkel or just relax under the Cycladic sun. The cruise returns early in the afternoon.

    • + ANCIENT DELOS Delos, once a Sacred Island, is the legendary birthplace of God Apollo and his twin sister Artemis. For 500 years, this tiny island was the religious and commercial hub of the entire Aegean Sea. Today the whole territory of the deserted Delos is one of the most important archaeological sites of the eastern Mediterranean. During this half-day trip you may visit, amongst others, the remains of the Temple of Apollo, the sanctuary of Artemis, the old city and the theatre and then walk down the celebrated Lion Street. In the museum of Delos one can admire Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic and Roman Sculptures, a collection of vessels from all periods as well as small items of everyday use.

  • SANTORINI

    • + ISLAND TOUR This morning, we will board the coach and drive to the highest point of the island called: Profitis Ilias, where one can take a panoramic picture of Santorini. Continuing on, we drive to the village of Pyrgos, where we will stop for a 20-30 minute stop to marvel at the typical blue domed churches, before driving to Megalochori. Once in this traditional and unique village of Santorini, we walk for approximately 15 minutes through the streets and get a glimpse of life on the island. Megalochori is known as the ghost village as this is the only place on the island where tourists-travellers do not visit. Completing this walk, we board the bus and head for the beach of Perivolos, the black sand beach passing other villages such as Kamari and Emborio. We have approximately 2 hours on the beach where we can swim, have lunch or do both, before we head off to the red sand beach where once again you will have the chance to swim. Last but not least is our visit to one of the best wineries of the island: Santo Wines. Grab the opportunity to taste three of the very best local wines while overlooking the cliffs of the southern part of the island and enjoying this geological marvel that is Santorini. (Lunch is not included)

    • + VOLCANO THIRASSIA OIA SUNSET Make your way to the old port of Santorini. We take the cable car and reach the port where we embark for a magical afternoon cruise in the Caldera area aboard one of the Santorini sailing yacht charters. The adventure begins with a visit to the quaint port of Nea Kammeni and the volcano. From there, we will be guided to the volcano's crater to admire the scenery while standing on the hot, rugged rock. We will then be taken to the hot springs, where we will have the chance to bathe in the warm volcanic waters. Boarding back onto the ship, we will have the chance to enjoy Greek Mezedes accompanied by Santorini Local wines. Cruising on, we will pass by the island of Thirassia, in order to reach the most beautiful part of the island: OIA. From the deck of the ship. We will have the unique opportunity to admire the enchanting sunset as we sail back to Fira Town. (Entrance fee to the Volcano, Euro 2.00, is not included.)

    • + SUNSET AND DINNER IN OIA This afternoon we will have the opportunity to visit one of the most beautiful destinations of the Island of Santorini, Oia.
