On every itinerary, we offer a range of optional excursions that allow you to further enhance your experience should you so choose. These are purchased when you are on your trip, via your Trafalgar Travel Director. Depending on the region visited these can be paid with cash or credit card.


A reduction of 25% of the cost of the Optional Excursions is offered to all children under the age of 16 years at the time of travel. Please Note: This discount to does not apply to North America optionals, as they are already discounted.

  • ROME

    • + Evening Introduction To Rome A superb drive through Rome, seeing some of the most impressive sights that this city has to offer. Afterwards with our Local Guide we will stroll to beautiful Piazza Navona with its fountains, trattorias and outside cafes, followed by a visit to Piazza Venezia to see the Capitoline Hill and Mussolini's headquarters during WWII (Palazzo Venezia).

    • + Spectacular Rome A guided interior visit of Rome's most recognised landmark, the Colosseum, scene of gladiatorial combats and spectacles. Then we will continue on to the Via Appia to visit the Catacombs, once used as tombs by the early Christians.

    • + Roman Evening With Dinner A light hearted evening in Rome. We will relax and enjoy a typical Italian meal (drinks included), while live musicians entertain us. To complete our evening, we will drive along the Via Veneto, a location made famous by the film 'La Dolce Vita' and see how the Romans enjoy their city. A wonderful end to our day.

    • + Roman Delights An easy evening getting to know Rome and some of its main sights by coach. Followed by a delicious light dinner of Italian specialities. Music and drinks included.

    • + Vatican Museums And The Sistine Chapel An extension to the included sightseeing tour which allows us to admire the artistic masterpieces collected and commissioned by the Popes. See the famous Tapestry Gallery and Gallery of Maps then finally wonder at the masterpieces in the Sistine Chapel. Take your time - Michelangelo spent 11 years in the preparation of the vault and altar wall!

  • SORRENTO

    • + Mozzarella Party And Sorrento Countryside Our beautiful drive takes us into the Sorrentino countryside to arrive at an 18th century olive oil mill where we enjoy a guided visit of the gardens, the mill and an ancient wine cellar. We visit the lemon, orange and olive groves and witness a demonstration of how mozzarella and other cheeses of the region are made. Finally, we enjoy a substantial snack of various cheeses, salamis and marinated vegetables washed down with local wine and home-made bread.

    • + Positano And The Amalfi Drive Using private mini-buses, we drive along the famous Amalfi Coast in order to visit the exclusive artists' paradise of Positano, magnificently positioned on the Mediterranean coast.

    • + Pompeii A guided tour of the excavations of Pompeii, the perfectly preserved Roman town which was engulfed by the eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79. A unique opportunity to glimpse a moment of Roman everyday life, frozen for over 2000 years.

  • VENICE

    • + Canals Of Venice An unforgettable introduction to this unique and magical city! We cruise along the Grand Canal by private water taxi, admiring the magnificent and elegant palazzos. We see the Rialto Bridge and then reach 'the most beautiful outdoor drawing room in the world', St Mark's Square. Later during your Gondola Ride, you will glide along the picturesque smaller canals while a duo of musicians entertains.

    • + Majestic Venice Explore hidden parts of the maze of streets which make up this unique city. Your Local Guide will give you fascinating insights into Venice's past and present, through the eyes of a local. A visit to the majestic basilica of St Mark reveals some of its treasures. Behind closed doors we will view some of the prized trophies looted by the Venetians in their rise to power, or alternatively we will visit the outside terrace for exceptional vistas of this remarkable city on water.

    • + Lagoon Cruise With Lunch or Dinner Take some time off the beaten track! We are taken by private boat to the nearby islands in the lagoon of Venice. See the island of Murano where the glass blowers live. Lunch or dinner is taken at the picturesque Island of the fishermen, Burano, famous for its multi-coloured houses and a photographer's paradise. Drinks are also included.

  • ITALIAN LAKES

    • + Cruise Lake Como We drive along the shores of Lake Como. Here we board our private launch for a leisurely cruise past the most elegant villas and gardens of this region - arguably the most beautiful spot in the Italian Lake District.

    • + Marvelous Milan The bustling fashion and financial capital of Italy is ours to admire as we visit the city with our Local Guide, seeing the mains sights of La Scala, Sforzesca Castle, the modern day forum in the Galleries, and of course the spectacular Duomo.

  • FLORENCE

    • + Florentine Dinner With Entertainment Sample the flavours of medieval Florence, during an evening of good food and music at a distinctive historic venue. (Subject to availability.)

    • + Dinner Wine And Music In The Tuscan Hills Take a scenic drive through the beautiful Tuscan countryside to a delightful regional restaurant set among the pines and cypress trees. Here a feast of gastronomic specialities awaits, accompanied by song and music.

    • + Visit To San Gimignano We drive to the nearby hilltop town of San Gimignano, the medieval Manhattan of Tuscany. Surrounded by fields of sunflowers, vineyards and olive groves, this is Italys best preserved medieval city and will give you an excellent idea of daily life in Italy during the Middle Ages.

    • + Michelangelos David A guided insight into the world of genius Michelangelo and his masterpiece "David". We enter the Academy of Fine Arts by a preferential reserved entrance and our visit focuses on Michelangelo and his groundbreaking and beautiful sculpture.
