Authentic Accommodation

Wake up somewhere unique

Some of the hotels we’ve found capture local culture in a way that’s entirely unique; hence the name ‘Authentic Accommodation’.

Join us for a night’s stay at the hotel where JFK proposed to Jackie Onassis. Or get a feel for what it was like to be an old-time Italian king while staying at the Albergo Dell’Agenzia – the former country estate of King Carlo Alberto of Savoy.

After all, there’s nothing like waking up in a place that has a history.

See where you could wake up

  • The Strater Hotel is a local landmark in Durango. Built in 1887 by a pharmacist, who was sure the mining town would prosper, his dreams never quite came to pass and it became a refuge for locals in winter. You’ll be delighted to see it now houses the world’s largest collection of American Victorian antiques.

  • Wake up aboard a traditional junk boat surrounded by the tranquil beauty of Halong Bay. As you sail among dramatic limestone islets, you'll dine on freshly-caught seafood and get to know your fellow travelers in a unique setting.

  • Join the Yigitoglu family at their grandly restored Turkish cave hotel, Dilek Kaya, which sits proudly beside the Ortahisar rock castle. You’ll spend a night in its unique rock-carved bedrooms, and the hotel’s position means you’ll enjoy beautiful elevated views of Cappadocia’s honeycombed hills.

  • In Ireland, Captain Patrick will share his local knowledge of Ashford Castle as you cruise towards its drawbridge. As you come ashore, a lone piper will be waiting to escort you to your home for the night: a 13th century fortress turned luxury retreat.
