Customer experience is the standard of service you receive
Trafalgar's service was efficient, responsive and everything went really well. Our tour guide, Mohammed was outstanding. His expertise, high level organisation and communication skills contributed to making the experience both terrific and memorable
Should have had something scheduled for us on the first night and on the last day. Other Trafalgar tours had these and it helps with group camarderie and future contact.
The drivers were excellent. The local specialist Abdul was attentive and great in airport pick up and drop off. The hotels were excellent and the sites we visited were fabulous; memories for a lifetime. This tour was not as good as previous ones we have taken to Greece and Spain. I don't think we would have come back to Trafalgar if this had been our first one. We were dropped off at the hotel on arrival and were on our own in a strange place - usually there was a welcome dinner or reception. No name tags like previous tours. We did not receive luggage tags. There was not farewell dinner - we did not get to say good bye to all our companions. The tour director was very knowledgable but did not share enough information - we had to ask for explanations too often. He also was very short with people who had ?'s;. there is a polite way of asking someone to wait until he was finished with his explanation. He was right though in being critical of one couple who continually held the group up at out site visits
I would definitely recommend the Egyptian Voyager tour through Trafalgar. We had a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The hotels that we stayed at were all top notch, the sites that we got to see were excellent and the service while in country was great. Our tour guide Mohamed was very knowledgeable, pleasant and willing to help out. We only did one optional excursion on this trip, and that was the flight and tour of Abu Simbel. I would absolutely recommend going as this one of the highlights of the trip. I know that Trafalgar leaves this as an optional excursion, to keep the cost of the tour down, but it is absolutely worth the additional expense, to see what you get to see. For the meals that are provided as part of the trip, they are fine. Nothing spectacular, but still decent. Most of the meals provided are in buffet form and any drinks you get, outside of water, tea or coffee, is at an additional expense to you. So, while they say that meals are provided, additional drinks are not. One thing that wasn't explained to us very well, was the situation of tipping for toilets. Most places you go, there will be someone there that will expect a tip and will usually collect that when you walk in. Some places, the person is an actual attendant that is cleaning the bathroom. Other places, it's someone that's just set up shop outside the restroom, collecting money, put providing no service. Just something to be aware of. Also, be aware that the street vendors will hassle you without ceasing. If you make eye contact, they're going to be after you. Alot of them will tell you that they're selling something for $1, but when you go to buy that, then they'll tell you they have something better in their shop. Just be aware and know that you're going to have to barter with them to purchase anything. Lastly, safety. We felt absolutely safe every where we went in Egypt. Tourism is one of the main industries in Egypt and they are very protective of the tourists. Most people are very friendly and willing to help. They're also very proud of their history and want you there. If safety is at all your concern, don't be.
Ramses Hilton in Cairo- stayed on two separate occasions on the trip. The room upon arrival was mediocre- thin towels, insufficient outlets, fridge was not working, tired looking room, noise from doors in hallway, outside music, voices. First breakfast buffet was awful- very crowded - insufficient cutlery, napkins. The room on return from Luxor was significantly nicer. Medea cruise ship: old but clean and good sized rooms. The staff friendly and helpful; plentiful food- nice variety. Helnan Palestine Hotel Alexandria- very nice hotel but we had no time to enjoy the amenities as we arrived late and left early - perhaps two nights in Alexandria are warranted. Hilton Heliopolis was very nice - also a very short stay. Due to our small group we travelled in vans/shuttle type vehicles - they were fine; probably made for easier travel -especially in Cairo. Skilled drivers. Tour directors were experienced and knowledgeable but we did not see them very often outside of the organized tours. We had different representatives meet us at the airport/ bring us to the airport etc - too many personnel. Insufficient communication on some days. Survey that we were asked to complete should have been given to us in advance and done in a more private manner. We were only given a short time to complete it- in the presence of the tour director.
Tour directors were knowledgeable and shared good advice. The tour sights in the planned itinerary were well chosen and we experienced easy entry to museums etc. The itinerary on one day was modified without providing advance notice or much of an explanation. Due to our very small group (3 travellers) there was not as much communication or socialization as I experienced on a previous Trafalgar tour.
