Travel from Paris and the Loire Valley to the D-Day landing beaches on this in-depth France and Normandy tour. Imagine life as a French noble when you dine at a chateau and learn all about the battles that were fought here through the ages.
Bienvenue! The 'City of Lights' welcomes you as you prepare to embark on an unforgettable journey through France. Join your fellow travellers and Travel Director this evening for a Welcome Reception and orientation drive to admire the glittering cityscape of Paris - past grand boulevards and iconic sites like the Champs Élysées and the Arc de Triomphe.
Admire Normandy’s Colourful Honfleur and the Bayeux Tapestry
This morning, we depart Paris and venture to the city of Rouen, the tragic site where Joan of Arc was burnt at the stake. We travel to the enchanting harbour town of Honfleur - its narrow lanes and colourful shopfronts have long attracted artists who have immortalised its beauty on canvas. Arriving in Bayeux, we visit the Tapestry Museum. Here you'll Dive Into Culture and see the Bayeux Tapestry, depicting events before and during the Battle of Hastings in 1066. This evening, we dine at our hotel.
We begin the day visiting the American Rangers Memorial at Pointe du Hoc. Pay tribute to the brave souls who lost their lives on the D-Day Landing Beaches of Omaha, imagining the sense of terror and triumph felt the fateful day that Allied forces set foot on mainland Europe. We stop for lunch in the seaside setting of Arromanches, once at the heart of the Normandy landings, before visiting the D-Day Museum to learn about the artificial harbour used by the Allies. Finish the day on the beaches of Juno, where the Canadian forces came ashore in 1944.

Coach was comfortable and spotless thanks to our driver Thierry, itinerary kept you hopping and might be a bit aggressive for someone with limitations but we are in our late sixties with no significant limitations and were fine...some of this had to do with the physical make up of the sights themselves but if you know your limitations it is adaptable. Hotels were clean and with modern bathroom facilities, very comfortable and attractive. Would have liked a longer visit in Hon Fleur and St Malo and could have skipped Arromanches. Only one negative experience with included meals and that was at our hotel in Mt Saint Michel.
An unforgettable trip from landscapes to architecture to history with our delightful and gracious guide Nicolas and the wonderful local specialists who were all attuned to each group member's needs and interests. The emotional visit to Pointe du Hoc and Omaha beach, Be My Guest luncheon at the estate in the Loire Valley, Mt Saint Michel and the optional experiences of St Malo and cider farm visit/dinner were the highlights for us. Received a wonderful orientation to Paris on the front and back ends that facilitated our extended stay in Paris after the tour. Looking forward to another wonderful vacation in Europe with Trafalgar that has again delivered in experiences unique to their touch.
My only complaint is that the hotels were not in places nearer to the towns. That being said, I haven't researched what hotels are available in those areas. I think that it was well worth the price.
I not only enjoyed our trip but as a single woman I felt safe and secure with our tour guide and bus driver(s) who always kept a count to assure nobody was ever left and all was well.
I really wanted to visit Normandy and I was not disappointed. All of the places we saw were interesting and quite fun. Mont St. Michel, the Loire Valley, PARIS - OMG what a fabulous city and Honfleur/ Bayeux. Just a great tour.
NIcolas was a terrific Travel Director and I have learned that if you have a great TD, you have a great trip regardless of where you go. The trip was beautiful and we spent very little time in the coach which was great. We were educated while we traveled so we were informed when we arrived at our destinations.
Bastille Day is a national holiday in France. Celebrations will be taking place throughout the country on 14 July.
