We did a lot in 8 days, which is great. The trip would have been better if we had flown to Agra instead of driving from Delhi to Agra. That was very tiring and time consuming. The hotels were nice and the staff very friendly but the outer surroundings did not look safe to venture out on your own. At times taking pictures from the bus was a hassle. We drove past Parliament House several times so we could take a picture from the bus. It would have been nice if we had gotten out to take a picture. We had no local specialist which I am not sure if that is good or bad. Shopping is a hassle. You are quoted a price then it is lowered, for me you never know what is a true price. The be my guest dinner wasn't different from what was served in the hotel. The Taj and Ganges were great experiences. I would recommend this trip.
With the exception of the hotel in Varanasi, which was not adequate, the accommodation was of a good standard, the schedule though busy, worked and the guide was excellent.
Good tour overall but wish we knew more practical information before arrival. We planned to withdraw cash from ATM’s but most were broken or out of use and then withdrawals were limited to less than $50. All water came in plastic bottles. We did not get sick and ate most foods. We visited Varanasi and had to get in boats that were very unsafe and challenging. We were unprepared for such terrible air pollution. Tour Started in Delhi but ended In Jaipur and we found that very confusing. We spent an extra day in Delhi as a result. We went to great trouble to print off vouchers and double checked them all but then never were requested to present any voucher ever! A waste of time and effort. Dinner in a typical middle class family in Jaipur was at just another tour guide’s home! Excellent hotels but was unaware of heightened security everywhere! Group was only 8 people but very cohesive group. Loved them all!
Thumbs up for this exciting, packed itinerary. The only site we felt we missed was Ghandi’s Memorial but that was because of India’s biggest holiday. We had culture shock from Old Delhi and then Varanasi. The rest of the trip seemed pretty mild. We would highly recommend this trip for a quick taste of India that includes the Taj Mahal and Varanasi.
We enjoyed our India experience very much. Based on our experience with other operators, we felt that Trafalgar should have provided us with pre-travel information SPECIFIC TO INDIA on the following: 1) Money. We should have been warned to either bring Rupees or lots of dollars. ATMs were few and far between and either broken, out of service or limited to 2,000 Rupees which is about $28.00. Thankfully my husband brought American dollars which were readily accepted. Some India specific information on money would have relieved a lot of anxiety. 2) Being green. Trafalgar’s generic pre trip info encouraged us to bring refillable water bottles which we did. This was a joke in India because the only safe water in India is bottled water. 3). Logistics and timing of arrival and departure. We had no help here. Little did we know that most flights to/from North America happen late at night or early morning. This information could have saved us from tan extra hotel night. Our tour officially ended in Jaipur Friday night. We should have been told that our included bus trip back to Delhi on Saturday would get us to the airport in plenty of time to make a late night flight back to US. Instead we unnecessarily booked a hotel for a return late the next day 4) Trafalgar did not disclose that our first day was on India’s biggest holiday. As a result we did not get to visit Ghandi’’s Memorial or the India Gate. We may have selected different dates had we known. 5) Fellow travelers. Other operators have provided names and home cities of our fellow travelers. We knew nothing about our fellow until our first get together. 6) Tour operators in Varanasi should insist on safer ways to board the boats. Currently tourists of all ages, size and ability must step into and across rocking boats which could easily lead to disaster. It was the only time my healthy 70 year old husband felt in need of assistance. 7) we liked our guide very much. He was personable and very knowledgeable about his country. I wish that he had travelled outside of India as it would have given him greater perspective on how a india differs from other countries.
I thought the tour was very good in general. Having a small tour group was a pleasure as it made things much simpler. The tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. I would certainlt use Trafalgar again.
