Bisected by the River Thames, London is a bustling metropolis where more than 300 languages are spoken; a city steeped in history and a rich cultural diversity. Explore everything from the seat of British democracy, the Palace of Westminster, to Greenwich, home of the Royal Observatory and the Prime Meridian – where you can stand with one foot in both hemispheres of the world.

Take in a hit show in one of the many West End theatres and come face-to-face with Dickens and Richard III at the National Portrait Gallery. Stroll alongside the River Fleet, where you’ll find the oldest Catholic church in England, St Etheldreda’s, and stop at a 16th century tavern where you can sample a traditional British pint.

Captivating countryside

The Lake District’s stunning scenery makes it a deservedly popular holiday destination. You’ll marvel at the soaring mountains – known locally as fells – magnificent lakes and scenic valleys. But when you travel with us you’ll do much more than admire the views. You’ll spend a morning on a working farm, learning about traditional farming methods and meeting the sheep, goats and cattle, before eating lunch with the family. We’ll also take you to Grasmere, where the poet William Wordsworth lived and wrote his most acclaimed poem, The Daffodils, and to St Oswald’s Church where he is buried.

History and heritage

Equally delightful, but completely different, is the walled city of York, with its rich Viking heritage. Your Travel Director will lead you around its narrow cobbled streets, showing you the ancient city walls and the magnificently gothic York Minster, before taking you for a drink in a traditional English pub. Then we’ll take you on to one of England’s lesser known regions, the North East, where the unspoiled beauty has to be seen to be believed. Here you’ll visit the dramatic yet gentle Northumberland National Park, known as England’s most tranquil place.

Literary landmarks

In graceful, stately Bath, you’ll admire the imposing Georgian buildings and visit the Roman baths which gave the city its name. We’ll then show you another side to the nearby village of Glastonbury, famous now for its annual music festival. We’ll take you instead to the ruins of its ancient abbey, where King Arthur is thought to be buried. Further north, we’ll take you on a scenic drive through the countryside to Stratford upon Avon. Here, you’ll visit Shakespeare’s birthplace as well as his wife Anne Hathaway’s thatched cottage. You’ll learn about medieval English life and marvel at the rich colors of the stunning Victorian cottage garden.

Christmas in London

England is the quintessential place to enjoy a traditional Christmas, though it’s London that truly comes alive during the festive season.

Christmas markets pop up around the city in the run-up to the big day, with endless log cabins selling mulled wine, traditional gifts, world foods and more. Pantomimes and ice-skating prove favourite pastimes for children and adults alike, and a trip to Regent’s Street to see the famous illuminations is magical and unmissable in equal measures.

Join us on our Winter in London tour over Christmas Day to enjoy a festive lunch with all the trimmings. While you’re here, why not attend a morning service at iconic St. Paul’s or Westminster Abbey?
