This morning after a leisurely start, your Local Specialist takes you on an included morning sightseeing tour featuring Buckingham Palace, Piccadilly Circus, Whitehall, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. Visit Westminster Abbey, originally built by Edward the Confessor in 1050, where the monarchs of England have been coronated since 1066 and 17 monarchs have been laid to rest. The Abbey is steeped in more than a thousand years of history. Benedictine monks first came to the site in the middle of the tenth century and established a daily worship tradition which continues to this day. Finally we visit Westminster Cathedral, the Mother Church for Roman Catholics in England which is modelled on a Byzantine basilica. This afternoon we visit the Tower of London where the Crown Jewels are kept and home to Sir Thomas Moore's room where he was confined for refusing to accept the king as the Head of the Church. We'll also see Tower Hill where he was beheaded.
