Auckland – Hong Kong

Check-in at Auckland International airport where we are introduced to Chelsea Winter and board our flight to Hong Kong. On arrival in Hong Kong, we will be transferred to our hotel.

Day 2: Friday, 19 May 2017

Hong Kong Sightseeing

Enjoy a half day city tour. Explore the exciting funicular railway ascent to the top of Victoria Park to take in the soaring views of Hong Kong. Visit Aberdeen Fishing Village for a sampan ride allowing a “close up” view of waterborne life for the “floating community”, followed by a delicious dim sum lunch. Then a short drive takes you to the famous Stanley Market - one of Hong Kong’s oldest settlements, best known for its bustling market. At leisure this afternoon before we transfer to the airport for our overnight flight to Rome. (BB, L)

Day 3: Saturday, 20 May 2017

Arrive Rome (2 nights)

Welcome to Rome, the Eternal City. With our Travel Director we transfer to the city and unwind after the journey. Later enjoy a Welcome dinner at a local restaurant followed by an orientation drive to see the Tiber and St. Peter’s Basilica, a perfect introduction to this magical city.  (D)

Day 4: Sunday, 21 May 2017

Rome Sightseeing & Free Time   

Your included sightseeing tour with a Local Specialist will include views of the Palatin, the Forum, centre of daily life in ancient Rome. Visit the impressive Colosseum, the largest arena in the Roman Empire. See the Circus Maximus where Ben Hur style chariot racing took place. Spend free time discovering more of the city or relax at a pavement cafe and watch the world go by. Dine tonight at a local restaurant. (BB, D)

Drive eastwards through the spectacular Campania Mountains to the Puglia region near the Adriatic coast. (BB)

Alberobello Orientation & Free Time

See the UNESCO World Heritage listed conical limestone houses – trulli – during your orientation of the town of Alberobello. Then experience a photographer’s delight as we visit the city of Ostuni. 

This evening experience a special Be My Guest dinner in a traditional masseria (farmhouse) in Alberobello. (BB, BMG)

Day 7: Wednesday, 24 May 2017

Alberobello – Sorrento (2 nights)

This morning travel to the gorgeous coastal town of Sorrento famous for its delicious limoncello drink. Your orientation includes views of Piazza Tasso and Corso Italia. You will then have free time to explore the town. Tonight, enjoy a typical meal at a Mozzarella farm. (BB, D)

Sorrento: Capri Excursion

Cruise across the Bay of Naples to the beautiful Isle of Capri. Amazing views are in store as we tour the famous ‘jet-set’ island of Capri. Your walking orientation of Capri town includes views of the Marina Piccola with a local specialist. Admire the legendary Piazetta, the centre of local life. Spend time shopping at elegant boutiques or perhaps explore the coast of this pretty island by private motor launch. (B, D)

Sorrento at leisure

Your day is free to do as you please. Sip a cappuccino, browse the shops and maybe take a dip in the Mediterranean Sea? Maybe take an excursion along Italy’s finest coastline, the Amalfi Coast to Positano. Dinner in a local restaurant. (BB, D)

Sorrento – Spoleto (2 nights)

Travel north into the Lazio to enjoy a wine tasting at Orvieto and visit the amazing Gothic Cathedral.

Continue onto Spoleto, an ancient city in the Italian province of Perugia, located in the foothills of the Apennines. (BB, D)

DAY 11: Sunday, 28 May 2017

Spoleto: Assisi Excursion

Drive through the undulating hills to the peaceful town of Assisi – home of St Francis – and a cathedral with wonderful frescoes and a hilltop town of charming medieval streets. Later return to Spoleto and enjoy free time. (BB)

DAY 12: Monday, 29 May 2017

Spoleto – Florence – Montecatini 

We make the trip to Renaissance Florence. Your Local Specialist will provide a superb commentary of the city’s history during your walking tour which includes the Baptistery, Cathedral of Santa Maria dei Fiori, the impressive Giotto’s Bell Tower and Piazza della Signoria. Enjoy free time to shop, visit museums or simply watch the world go by in a local café! Later we arrive in the thermal spa resort of Montecatini, the largest and most famous spa town in Italy, our home for the next three nights. In the evening, dine at the hotel. (BB, D)

Montecatini: Tuscan Lifestyle Experience

Begin your day at a fruit and vegetable market in Florence by gaining a unique insight into Italian cuisine from a professional chef. Here you will participate in purchasing fresh produce for your cooking lesson. Take your produce to the restaurant and spend time together preparing your delicious luncheon with a glass of wine or two! (BB, RM)

Montecatini: San Gimignano Excursion

Explore San Gimignano known as the ‘medieval Manhattan’, famed for its ring of towers. Shop for locally produced delicacies and handpainted Tuscan pottery. Later, visit a wine tasting and olive oil outlet and taste excellent Chianti and extra virgin olive oils just outside the small town of Greve before returning to Montecatini. (BB)

Montecatini – Siena – Rome

Discover Siena, a picturesque medieval town in the heart of Tuscany, famous for the biannual Palio horse race. Admire the architecture on Piazza del Campo as you sip a cool drink at a pavement café. Shop for unique local pottery before returning to Rome. Join your companions this evening and celebrate the end of your holiday with a farewell dinner. (BB, FD)

Terms and Conditions

Tour costs

The costs are based on specially negotiated airfares on which special conditions apply and on twin share accommodation. There are a limited number of singles available at a supplement cost. Room Share is available on request (conditions apply).

Reservations and payment
On receipt of a $1000 non-refundable deposit per person, Trafalgar will confirm your land reservation. Final payment must be received 60 days prior to departure from New Zealand. If payment is not received by the due date,Trafalgar reserves the right to cancel the reservation and apply the appropriate cancellation charges.

Changes to tour costs
Tour costs are based on exchange rates as at August 2016 and are subject to change. Should these rates or costs change, it may be necessary to make a surcharge on the cost of the tour. No surcharge will be made in respect of currency fluctuation once full payment has been received. This guarantee does not apply to fuel surcharges or to any taxes, charges or levies imposed by any government or their agencies. Airfare costs are subject to minimum passenger numbers and may change. Auckland, Hong Kong and Rome taxes are included and are correct as at 03 August 2016 and are subject to change until group is ticketed.

Before you join the tour
Travel documents and instructions for joining your tour will be sent to you approximately 3 weeks before your tour commences provided full payment has been received. Please read the documents and tour literature which are sent to you, in an attractive passport wallet, before departure—they contain a wealth of advice and essential information to make your holiday as enjoyable as possible.

Changes to tour itineraries
Trafalgar constantly tries to improve tour itineraries and tour features. If improvements can be made, or unforeseen circumstances beyond our control make changes necessary, we reserve the right to vary itineraries and substitute hotels. This special departure is based on a minimum of 25 passengers and in the unlikely event that we have to cancel your reservation because of insufficient numbers booked we will use our best endeavors to offer an alternative holiday of similar standard. If you do not accept the alternative a full refund of all monies paid to Trafalgar will be made.

Cancellations, refunds & booking changes
Notice of cancellation must be in writing either directly to Trafalgar or through your travel agent. A $1000 fee per person will be charged for all cancellations. Any changes to air arrangements after tickets issued will incur a $125 fee per person per change. Additionally, the following scale of charges will apply when cancellation is notified within 60 days of tour departure from NZ. The charges apply to the land content only. Airfare and stopover cancellation and amendment fees are as levied by suppliers. 

  • For cancellations over 60 days prior to departure date = $1000 per person
  • For cancellations over 60 - 22 days prior to departure date = 25% of total price
  • For cancellations over 21 - 8 days prior to departure date = 30% of total price
  • For cancellations 7 - 1 days prior to departure date = 50% of total price
  • For cancellations day of departure / no show = 100% of total price

Cancellation fees shown above are additional to any fees levied by your Travel Agent. In the event you have to withdraw from a tour after it has begun for reasons such as illness, be sure to obtain a medical certificate in support of any insurance claim. We regret that we are not able to make any refunds for absences from the tour, including but not limited to unused hotel accommodation, meals or sightseeing.

Insurance
We recommend that you purchase insurance coverage for the duration of your holiday including airfare cancellation, baggage and medical coverage.

Optional return dates
The international airfare on which this tour is based allows individual passengers to return independently on a space available basis. There is a fee of $125 per person for this and also a separate costing may apply.

Passports and visas
A current passport endorsed as valid for all countries to be visited is essential. All passengers must hold a machine readable passport and applicable visas. Foreign passport holders must be in possession of a New Zealand Re-entry Permit, if applicable. Please note that passport and visa requirements are not the responsibility of the Tour Operator.
