Day 1: Tuesday, 08 November 2016

Auckland – Hong Kong

Check-in at Auckland International airport where we are introduced to Chelsea Winter and board our flight to Hong Kong departing 2.30pm.  On arrival in Hong Kong, we will be transferred to our hotel.

Day 2: Wednesday, 09 November 2016

In Hong Kong

Today’s sightseeing with our local guide starts with an exciting funicular railway ascent to the top of Victoria Peak to take in the soaring views of Hong Kong.  We stop at Aberdeen Fishing Village for a sampan ride allowing a  “close up” view of waterborne life of the “floating community”.  This is followed by a delicious dim sim lunch.  Then, a short drive takes you to the famous Stanley Market – one of Hong Kong’s oldest settlements, best known for its bustling market!  After the tour, transfer back to hotel and the remainder of the day is at leisure until the departure transfer to the airport for our overnight flight to Madrid.  (B, L)

Arrive Madrid (2 nights)

Welcome to Madrid. Relax or explore this lively city before meeting up with your fellow travellers and Travel Director. Enjoy an evening drive to take in some of the city's main sights followed by a traditional paella dinner at a local restaurant.  (D)

Day 4: Friday, 11 November 2016

In Madrid   

Meet your Local Specialist for a sightseeing tour of Madrid. See Plaza España, Gran Via, Puerta Del Sol and the Cibeles Fountain before your visit of the world famous Prado Museum. The museum houses the largest collection of European art in the world, including masterpieces by Velazquez. Later enjoy free time to explore the city at leisure. This evening join your Travel Director and fellow travellers for a Traditional Spanish Dinner. (B, D)

Day 5:  Saturday, 12 November 2016

Madrid – Cordoba - Seville (2 nights) 

Travel southwards from Madrid, through La Mancha, to Cordoba. Visit the Mosque of the Caliphs and learn about the influence of the Moors from your Local Specialist, before continuing on to Seville. (B)

Day 6:  Sunday, 13 November 2016

In Seville  

Travel through Seville's tree-lined streets on a sightseeing tour with your Local Specialist. Visit Seville Cathedral and see the Giralda Tower, a former minaret converted to a bell tower. Visit the tomb of Christopher Columbus in the cathedral. Then see the tiled fountains, pavilions and lush palms in the Maria Luisa Park, renowned for its landscape design and walk through the imposing Plaza de España. Your guided tour finishes with a walk through the former Jewish quarter.   

This evening experience a unique Be My Guest dinner of Andalusian cuisine at an 18 th century hacienda of a family-owned olive oil mill. (B, BG)

Day 7: Monday, 14 November 2016

Seville – Lisbon (2 nights)

Your panoramic journey continues through the province of Huelva, famous for Jabugo ham and the Rio Tinto mines, and past the castle at Aracena. Crossing the border into the Alentejo region of Portugal, renowned for its cork oaks, you arrive in Lisbon. (B)

Day 8: Tuesday, 15 November 2016

In Lisbon

See Lisbon's landmarks including the Monument to the Discoveries, the suspension bridge spanning the River Tagus, the Belém Tower and the quaint Alfama district. Visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Hieronymite Monastery during your sightseeing tour with your Local Specialist. We  visit a patisserie and  enjoy a demonstration and tasting of the famous ‘Pateis de Belem’. Later in your free time perhaps join an Optional Experience to the historic towns of Cascais and Sintra.

Tonight we enjoy a seafood dinner. (B, D)

Day 9: Wednesday, 16 November 2016

Lisbon – Obidos – Fatima – Porto 

Visit the medieval city of Obidos with time to walk the medieval streets.  From here we head north to Fatima to visit the shrine where three young shepherds famously saw the apparition of the Virgin  at the pilgrimage site of Fatima.  On arrival in Porto, experience a Cultural Insight into the traditions of the local wine produce at a tasting in a port cellar. Day 10: Thursday, 17 November 2016

Porto – Oviedo 

We cross the border back into Spain and enjoy a scenic drive to Oviedo.  Tonight we are treated to a Be My Guest dinner at a cider mill of Asturian specialities, where you will also learn about the local green cider. (B, BG)

DAY 11: Friday, 18 November 2016

Oviedo – Bilbao – San Sebastian (2 nights)  

First stop is Bilbao where we admire the striking modern architecture of the Guggenheim Museum. We drive along part of the Costa Vasca, dotted with small fishing villages , then continue on to San Sebastián.  Admire the beauty of Bahia de la Concha beach and enjoy a guided walking tour of the old quarter.  See the numbered balconies of the Piaza de la constitucion, from the days when bullfights were held in the square. San Sebastián, is known as the culinary capital of Spain, so why not enjoy the local pinchos (tapas) bars and be sure to try the local Txacoli wine. (B)

San Sebastian  - Barcelona (3 nights)

Your first stop is in Pamplona, the city of the running of the bulls. Perhaps take a stroll to the famous Estafeta Street before moving on past the famous Rioja wine producing region? Continue to Barcelona, Spain’s most cosmopolitan city. (B)

In Barcelona 

This morning, see Gaudi's architecture at the inspiring Sagrada Familia, walk the Ramblas and visit Plaça Catalunya. View the monument to Christopher Columbus and take in panoramic views from Montjuic during your guided sightseeing tour with a Local Specialist.   Later there is the opportunity to join an optional experience to Montserrat to see the shrine of the Black Madonna - affectionately known in Catalonia as ‘La Moreneta'. Tonight enjoy a delicious dinner of local specialities at a Catalan-style restaurant. (B, D)

In Barcelona  

Enjoy a Cultural Insight into the delicacies of Spanish cuisine as we wander through the food stalls of La Boqueria Market. Then the day is at leisure to shop and explore. This fascinating metropolis dates back to Roman times and boasts a rich artistic and architectural heritage.  Why not   join an optional experience to the town of Figueres to visit the Dali Theatre and Museum.  Here you gain a cultural insight into the world of Salvador Dali and see his work in this impressive and inspiring building. Barcelona – Madrid

Travel via Zaragoza where the four towers of ‘El Pilar' soar over the banks of the mighty Rio Ebro.  Arrive back in the elegant Spanish Capital of Madrid and enjoy a farewell dinner with a fiery flamenco show! (B, D)

Terms and Conditions

Tour costs
Costs are based on specially negotiated airfares on which special conditions apply and on twin share accommodation. There are a limited number of singles available at a supplement cost. Room Share is available on request (conditions apply).

Reservations and payment
On receipt of a $1000 non-refundable deposit per person, Trafalgar will confirm your land reservation. Final payment must be received 60 days prior to departure from New Zealand. If payment is not received by the due date, Trafalgar reserves the right to cancel the reservation and apply the appropriate cancellation charges.

Changes to tour costs
Tour costs are based on exchange rates as at June 2016 and are subject to change. Should these rates or costs change, it may be necessary to make a surcharge on the cost of the tour. No surcharge will be made in respect of currency fluctuation once full payment has been received. This guarantee does not apply to fuel surcharges or to any taxes, charges or levies imposed by any government or their agencies. Airfare costs are subject to minimum passenger numbers and may change. Hong Kong and Madrid taxes are included and are correct as at 03 June 2016 and are subject to change until group is ticketed.

Before you join the tour
Travel documents and instructions for joining your tour will be sent to you approximately 3 weeks before your tour commences provided full payment has been received. Please read the documents and tour literature which are sent to you, in an attractive passport wallet, before departure—they contain a wealth of advice and essential information to make your holiday as enjoyable as possible.

Changes to tour itineraries
Trafalgar constantly tries to improve tour itineraries and tour features. If improvements can be made, or unforeseen circumstances beyond our control make changes necessary, we reserve the right to vary itineraries and substitute hotels.

This special departure is based on a minimum of 20 passengers and in the unlikely event that we have to cancel your reservation because of insufficient numbers booked we will use our best endeavours to offer an alternative holiday of similar standard. If you do not accept the alternative a full refund of all monies paid to Trafalgar will be made.

Cancellations, refunds & booking changes
Notice of cancellation must be in writing either directly to Trafalgar or through your travel agent. A $1000 fee per person will be charged for all cancellations. Any changes to air arrangements after tickets issued will incur a $125 fee per person per change. Additionally, the following scale of charges will apply when cancellation is notified within 60 days of tour departure from NZ. The charges apply to the land content only. Airfare and stopover cancellation and amendment fees are as levied by suppliers. 

  • For cancellations over 60 days prior to departure date = $1000 per person
  • For cancellations over 60 - 22 days prior to departure date = 25% of total price
  • For cancellations over 21 - 8 days prior to departure date = 30% of total price
  • For cancellations 7 - 1 days prior to departure date = 50% of total price
  • For cancellations day of departure / no show = 100% of total price

Cancellation fees shown above are additional to any fees levied by your Travel Agent. In the event you have to withdraw from a tour after it has begun for reasons such as illness, be sure to obtain a medical certificate in support of any insurance claim. We regret that we are not able to make any refunds for absences from the tour, including but not limited to unused hotel accommodation, meals or sightseeing. 

Insurance
We recommend that you purchase insurance coverage for the duration of your holiday including airfare cancellation, baggage and medical coverage. 

Optional return dates
The international airfare on which this tour is based allows individual passengers to return independently on a space available basis. There is a fee of $125 per person for this and also a separate costing may apply.

Passports and visas
A current passport endorsed as valid for all countries to be visited is essential. All passengers must hold a machine readable passport and applicable visas. Foreign passport holders must be in possession of a New Zealand Re-entry Permit, if applicable. Please note that passport and visa requirements are not the responsibility of the Tour Operator.
