Everything you need to know about our new Small Group Active Trips

New incoming travel style alert. We’ve recently launched five new small group active trips that offer Trafalgar guests in the USA and Canada the rich experiences and connections you know and love, but with added benefits.

Instead of our usual coach, on these five Small Group Active Tours we’ll transport up to 17 guests in a slick Mercedes-Benz® sprinter van. The benefit? A more nimble vehicle = the opportunity to reach those off-the-beaten-path destinations, not to mention smaller group sizes allow for even more boutique experiences. Here’s everything you need to know about our new Small Group Active Tours.

What’s the difference between a Trafalgar tour and sprinter van trips?

If you’ve ever joined a Trafalgar tour, you’ll know exactly what it’s like. You’ll have an absolute blast exploring a new country or continent along with your warm and friendly Travel Director and skilled driver. On our regular tours there are usually between 30 to 50 guests aboard the coach.

With our Small Group Active Tours, we’re able to offer a new style of travel while still giving guests the signature Trafalgar experience. In the chic and comfortable Mercedes-Benz® sprinter van there will be no more than 17 guests. The small group size means we can access more intimate hotels and restaurants while still enjoying the signature and handcrafted Trafalgar experiences.

What’s a Mercedes-Benz® sprinter van?

Picture a slick, comfortable mini-bus with all the mod-cons. That’s a Mercedes-Benz® sprinter van. With plenty of legroom, 110v outlets and USB ports and even a filtered water dispenser, these vehicles will see you traveling the country in style.

The vans are also considerably shorter than a coach, meaning we can access roads and destinations that are tricky for a much larger vehicle, unlocking a new world of possibilities for Trafalgar guests.

Where can we go with the new new Small Group Active Tours?

Available exclusively for those living in the USA and Canada, our five new Small Group trips explore destinations you would be unable to reach on a regular Trafalgar tour. Four of the tours are active trips exploring some incredible US National Parks, so some level of fitness is required to make the most of these small group adventures.

One trip will take you through Yellowstone, The Tetons and Glacier National Parks, exploring the greatest feats of nature in Montana, Wyoming and Idaho. Another is focused on California, touring through Yosemite and Lassen Volcanic National Parks.

If you’re eager to discover Arizona and its heritage, ancient culture and stunning landscapes, travel in style on the best of the Old West and the Grand Canyon. The fourth active tour explores the stark beauty of the desert national parks of California, while the fifth cruises the coast of California on a decadent food and wine trip.

Tell us about the Montana small group adventure

Across seven days our Yellowstone, The Tetons and Glacier National Park Small Group Active Tour will get you up close with nature. Experience the best of Big Sky Country when you adventure through Grand Teton and Glacier National Parks and hike past soaring geysers in Yellowstone (there’s nothing like seeing Old Faithful reach for the sky).

Pack your walking shoes as this trip takes Trafalgar guests right into the heart of Montana’s wilderness and includes a couple of easy three to five mile hikes.

And of course, no Trafalgar experience would be complete without a Be My Guest lunch and MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® experience. Visiting an indigenous arts and crafts workshop, you’ll enjoy a lunch from a local, indigenous-inspired food truck. While here you’ll learn how the college is on a mission to provide quality educational opportunities and support for Native Americans.

Tell us about the Arizona discovery tour

Heritage, ancient culture and stunning landscapes will be on show in Arizona as we trace centuries of Native American history and the best views of the Grand Canyon. On this eight-day tour explore the best of southern and northern Arizona and enjoy a taste of the Old West.

This Small Group Active Tour is loaded with our signature MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® experiences, including an encounter with the art and traditions of 11 local tribes associated with the Grand Canyon region.

What’s exciting about the food and wine California trip?

Sip and savour your way along the Pacific coastline of California on this week-long foodie Small Group Active Tour. You will wander an avocado grove, learn to shuck oysters, meet alpine goats, wander vineyards and taste fresh olive oil at the source.

It’s not all food and wine (but there will be plenty of that). Beyond meeting gourmet food producers, wine makers and coastal communities, you’ll get to know California’s nature including the beauty of Ben Sur.

Tell us about the sprinter van California adventure

The north of California is calling. Explore epic volcanoes in Lassen Volcanic National Park, traverse Gold Country, visit crystal clear Lake Tahoe and hike through stunning Yosemite on our new sprinter van tour.

This seven-day small group adventure starts in Sacramento, California’s capital city, before hitting the wide open road. It’s also an active trip, so you can look forward to a short and easy hike or two.

Nature aficionados will love meeting a local climber and naturalist who will share the exciting history of climbing in Yosemite, while the Be My Guest experience will see you stopping for lunch at the family-owned, sustainable, organic Heringer Estates vineyard, an establishment that has been farming in the Sacramento delta for over 100 years. Through a special partnership, the family estate helps to provide a habitat for rehabilitated owls too.

What’s good about the desert adventure?

Starting in Las Vegas and finishing in Palm Springs, this seven-day small-group California tour dives into the stark beauty of the desert. Between Death Valley and Joshua Tree National Park you’ll witness landscapes found nowhere else on earth and some of the most beautiful places in California.

This tour’s Dive Into Culture experience gets you up close with Southern California Modernism, the residential mid-century architecture style that was popular with the likes of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Marilyn Monroe. Plus you’ll visit one of the windiest spots in the United States and see 3,218 windmills up close.
