Our trip to East Coast USA and Canada<\/a> started off with a bang arriving in the Big Apple!<\/p>\n

After a full American buffet breakfast we set out on a tour of New York City, which included the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Times Square and Central Park. We then continued south to Washington D.C. stopping by Philadelphia on the way to visit Independence Hall. That evening in DC, we enjoyed a very nice three course Highlight Dinner at the historic Union Station.<\/p>\n

Louanne, our Local Guide in Washington was very good. We visited Lafayette Park, the White House, the Lincoln Memorial as well as the World War II and Vietnam War memorials and the Arlington National Cemetery. Here we took a guided tour on their hop on, hop off bus. Our highlight was seeing the Kennedy gravesites.<\/p>\n

On the way to Lancaster County Linda, our Trafalgar Travel Director surprised us with a Hidden Treasure \u2013 Kitchen Kettle, which is a small village made up of specialty shops and Lancaster’s most popular canning kitchen, where locals make delicious homemade treats. After a brief lunch stop, we joined our Local Guide, John, for a tour at a working Amish farm. He was excellent at explaining the Amish people, their lifestyle and culture. From there we went through the countryside which was covered in corn crops and arrived at our hotel for the night, The Inn at Leola Village<\/a>. Dinner was at the hotel and we were served by lovely waitresses dressed in traditional Amish dresses. After dessert the chef came out and showed us how to make whoopie pies, which are small round chocolate cakes with a marshmallow filling \u2013 an Amish speciality.<\/p>\n

Onwards to Canada! As we crossed the Niagara River into the Canadian border we caught our first glimpse of the mist rising from Niagara Falls, but our boat excursion to the falls would have to wait until tomorrow. We were staying at The Hilton Niagara Falls<\/a> overlooking the incredible Canadian and American Falls and in the evening we enjoyed a Be My Guest dinner at Vineland Estates Winery<\/a>. Upon arrival we had a tasting of three wines including their speciality Vice \u2013 the world’s first vodka icewine martini. Dinner was delicious and consisted of soup, steak and a chocolate dessert with tea and coffee. En-route back to our hotel, Rod, our Coach Driver drove us past the falls to see them lit up with different colours, it was amazing.<\/p>\n

In the morning we all boarded the Maid of the Mist boat for our excursion to the falls. Blue ponchos on, we set off towards the American and Bridal Veil Falls before turning towards the Canadian ‘Horseshoe’ Fall. The boat got very close to the bottom of these falls and we all got wet! After the cruise we had a couple of hours free to explore Niagara, so we took the opportunity to jump on the large wheel to get great views of the falls and the surrounding area. Later in the day we visited Niagara on the Lake where we walked through the pretty town and streets lined with beautiful flowers. Next stop \u2013 Toronto!<\/p>\n
