If you&#8217;ve ever wondered who has new year&#8217;s first (and last), let&#8217;s take a look&#8230;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Tonga<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Tonga is one of the first countries to welcome in the New Year. Boasting white sandy beaches, azure waters and tropical temperatures in December, we wouldn&#8217;t mind getting the party started here.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. New Zealand<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Counting down to midnight on New Year&#8217;s Eve in New Zealand is an experience not to be missed. December marks the middle of summer in New Zealand and with almost everyone on their holidays, there are no shortage of parties, fireworks and events.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Philippines<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>In the Philippines, many gather with family and friends to celebrate during a midnight meal known as <em>Media Noche.<\/em> They then stay awake to greet the coming of the New Year. On New Year&#8217;s Day, fireworks are lit and cheering away the evil spirits is a common practice! \u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. Cambodia<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Although Khmer New Year falls in April, celebrations take place on December 31st in many of the country&#8217;s biggest cities, full of colourful fireworks and lively festivities.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">7. Worshippers climb into coffins while monks cover them with pink sheets and perform funeral rites. Russia<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Whether you&#8217;re in Moscow or Saint Petersburg, there&#8217;s plenty of activity to help you celebrate the changing of years in Russia, from festivals, to fairs and other celebrations. In some areas, candles are placed in the sand on the beach as it is believed to bring money, peace and love in the future.
