Wiener Musikverein<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Wiener Musikverein is Vienna’s iconic concert hall, which first opened in 1870. Home to the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra<\/a>, almost every surface of the building is covered with gold, with elaborate frescoes adorning the ceiling. Take your seat and gaze in awe at the appropriately named Gro\u00dfe Musikvereinssaal<\/em> or Golden Hall, which seats 2000 guests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wiener Konzerthaus<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

To mark the opening of the Wiener Konzerthaus in 1913, Strauss wrote the Festliches Pr\u00e4ludium op 61. Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony was performed immediately afterwards. These compositions, one a classic masterpiece, the other a contemporary work of art, still inform the concert house’s vision; one of fusing tradition and innovation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The concert hall is home to the\u00a0Vienna Symphony, the\u00a0Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the\u00a0Wiener Singakademie\u00a0<\/a>and the\u00a0Klangforum Wien<\/a>. The Wiener Staatsoper, or Vienna State Opera House, is one of the world’s leading opera houses. The building, built in the Renaissance Revival style, was the first significant building on the Vienna Ring Road. Today, this very grand circular boulevard circles the old district and some of the city’s most notable historic attractions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For classical music lovers, it’s also a must on the Vienna classical music agenda. Poignantly, Mozart’s Requiem, his mournful last piece, is performed annually here on the 4th December. The sombre piece is played at the hour of his death, recognising the fact that he died not far from Karlskirche, at the tender age of 35.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
