The \u2018Mile High City\u2019 is best known for its blue skies, panoramic mountain views and craft beer scene. Denver is a great city to tack onto an amazing trip through the state of Colorado, but equally brilliant as a weekend hop. From the giant Coors factory to 400 craft breweries and brewpubs, let\u2019s look at why American beer finds its home in Denver, plus other cool things you can do while exploring the \u2018Napa Valley of beer\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Denver brews tonnes of American beer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

King of the American beer industry, Denver is a major player when it comes to brewing hops and malt. Apparently the first building in Denver back during the gold rush was a saloon, so it makes natural sense that the city would develop a taste for a cold American lagers, APAs and blonde ales.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the centre of this great beer town lies the Coors Brewery, the world\u2019s largest, and while craft beer brewing is a 21st century phenomenon in most places, Denver\u2019s Great American Beer Festival<\/a> has been running for 40 years and showcases more than 1,900 American beers each time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s said that on an average day, Denver is busy brewing more than 200 different beers. But the real reason it gets the nickname as the Napa Valley of Beer is the location. Surrounded by an epic mountain range, it\u2019s the great taste of this Rocky Mountain spring water \u2013 a key ingredient in beer making \u2013 that makes the city\u2019s American beer industry boom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Denver has 250 days of sunshine a year<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Colorado locals like to say that Denver has around 300 days of sunshine every year, but recently they discovered that\u2019s simply not true – which was a shock to everyone. Denver does still receive at least 250 days of sunshine a year and enjoys a brilliant mild, dry climate where the golf courses remain open year-round. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Denver might not be the first place you think of when considering world-class arts and culture, but since the first performance took place here in an Old West saloon the city has been an arts-first place. Covering four square blocks, look to the Denver Performing Arts Complex for shows at 10 theatres where opera, symphony, ballet and touring Broadway shows take the stage. Then there\u2019s the Ellie Caulkins Opera House, one of the finest acoustic venues in the world, and the refurbished Boettcher Concert Hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A gold rush in the late 19th century took Denver from nothing to a thriving place where some of the wildest Wild West events took place. Now you can explore the history of this crazy time at museums and in LoDo, the historic district filled with Victorian and turn-of-the-century buildings that houses around 90 brewpubs, jazz cafes, restaurants, bars and clubs.
