Whether you\u2019re an occasional traveler or a seasoned globetrotter, you\u2019ve probably learned a trick or two. We wanted to add to our list of travel tips so we asked our guests on Trafalgar\u2019s Facebook page <\/a>to share their golden travel rules. From seizing the moment and embracing the culture to packing light and being early, here\u2019s 7 unwritten travel rules that Trafalgar guests live by.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

1. Slow down and enjoy the moment<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

One of most commonly occurring themes in the responses was to do with the idea of living more in the moment. It’s tempting, especially when we’re confronted by impressive or iconic sights, to reflexively reach for our cameras or smart phones. But there’s much to be said for trying to be mindful of each moment as we experience them. These past guests put it perfectly:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

2. Pack light<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Packing light is a common tip in the travel world. But what does it actually mean to pack light and how do you do it? These past guests had some practical tips to pack well on your next trip: <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

“Pack easily-washed, uncrushable outer clothing plus undies and only take a carry on. Wear your walking shoes (I prefer comfy closed-toe sandals rather than trainers) and take one pair of dress shoes. I’ve never needed to check a bag and always look presentable.” – Beverley Harrop<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

“If you can’t carry your own luggage, you have too much.” – Tracy Laubscher<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

“Put all the clothes you want to take on a bed, pack only half of it and take double the money you planned to take.” – Annie Van Eeden Koning<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

“Only ever pack for a week mix and match, one pair of good black pants and a good top for evenings out. If travelling solo, pay single supplement – was told that by a TD we had in 2007.” – Jan H<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

3. Embrace the culture<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Experiencing different cultures, languages, cuisines and traditions is one of the most enriching parts of traveling. A common unwritten travel rule among our guests is to really embrace all things new and adventurous and open yourself to different customs and ideas. These guests had some sage advice:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

“Try to acclimate into the culture and community to truly embrace the adventure but remember you\u2019re a guest.” – Trish Nelson<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

4. Flying rules<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Flying is a huge part of travel and there are dozens of travel hacks and tips out there for the whole flying experience, from navigating airports to having a stress-free flight. Our guests had some gems to add to the list:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
