DAY 2: Saturday 15 October 2016 – Marathon Registration and Expo

After breakfast, join fellow athletes for registration at the Marathon Expo with included transfers.  The rest of the day is yours to explore.

DAY 3: Sunday 16 October 2016 – Amsterdam Marathon

Transfer collection from the hotel to the race start.  There will be a return transfer late in the afternoon back to your hotel. Relax before the start of your unforgettable guided holiday.

DAY 4: Monday 17 October 2016 – Amsterdam European Highlight Guided Holiday

Enjoy some free time in the morning.  Meet your Trafalgar Travel Director late afternoon and enjoy an orientation of the historic city centre followed by a Welcome Reception on a scenic canal cruise including a light dinner and welcome drinks.

DAY 5: Thursday 18 October 2016 – Amsterdam - Rhine Cruise - Heidelberg

Travel across the German border to the Rhine Valley. Relax as you cruise along the River Rhine past terraced vineyards and medieval castles to St. Goar. Pass the famous Lorelei Rock, named after a mermaid who lured fishermen to their deaths with her mesmerising song. In Heidelberg view the red sandstone castle, one of the most important Renaissance structures north of the Alps, which towers above Germany's oldest university town.

DAY 6: Wednesday 19 October 2016 – Heidelberg - Schaffhausen

Drive into the enchanting Black Forest and stop for a Cultural Insight cuckoo clock making demonstration. Visit the dramatic Rhine Falls at Schaffhausen, the largest waterfall in Europe. Arrive later in Switzerland with its alpine scenery and enjoy magnificent views across Lake Lucerne.

DAY 7: Thursday 20 October 2016 – Lucerne Orientation and Free Time

Walk across the 14th century Chapel Bridge on your morning orientation. Visit the solemn Lion Monument, commemorating the massacre of Swiss Guards in 1792. Spend the afternoon shopping in the old town for Swiss souvenirs and chocolates. Consider an Optional Experience up a local mountain for panoramic views and enjoy the fresh Alpine air by taking a leisurely walk beside the beautiful lake.

DAY 8: Friday 21 October 2016 – Burgundy Wine Region - Paris (2 nights)

See the changing landscape as you travel into France through Alsace and across the Maginot Line. Continue through the Burgundy countryside − one of the country's main wine producing regions, famous for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grape varieties. This evening you may decide to take an Optional Experience to see a famous Parisian Cabaret.

DAY 9: Saturday 22 October 2016 – Paris Sightseeing and Free Time

Your Local Specialist shows you the sights including views of the Champs Élysées, the Arc de Triomphe and the magnificent Opera House, designed by Charles Garnier and opened in 1875. Ascend to the second level of the Eiffel Tower by elevator and view the city in all its glory. Spend the afternoon as you wish. Perhaps take an Optional Experience to visit the Palace of Versailles. Celebrate in the evening with your fellow travellers at a Farewell Dinner in a local restaurant.

DAY 10: Sunday 23 October 2016 – Paris

After breakfast say ‘au revoir' to Paris where your wonderful European holiday comes to an end.

TCS Amsterdam Marathon

The TCS Amsterdam Marathon is known for its fast and beautiful course.  The course leads the participants through Amsterdam’s city centre and passes many highlights, which would also be worth a separate sightseeing tour.  Some of the most attractive sights are the Olympic Stadium where the start and finish is situated.  Runners will pass through the heart of the Rijksmuseum, the famous passage which connects Amsterdam city centre with the south of Amsterdam.  Runners will then experience scenic beauty through the Vondelpark which is the largest public park in Amsterdam. The 48-hectare park is full of trees, ponds, paths and playing fields.  Not forgetting the Amstel River where runners get to run alongside.  This rural part of the course has splendid panoramic views and gives an impression of the busy activity dominating the Amstel every day.

Mizuno Half Marathon
Start and finish: Stadionweg 
Starting time: 13:20 
Limited to 18,500 runners 
Cut-off time limit: 3 hours

The Mizuno half marathon consists of one loop, most of which passes through the attractive centre of Amsterdam. The course starts at the Stadionweg and goes through Churchilllaan, Rijnstraat and the Utrechtse Bridge over the Amstel River. You then run through Watergraafsmeer and Zeeburg. The rest of the course is same as that of the full marathon.

There are five events scheduled this day: the marathon, the Mizuno Half Marathon, the TCS 8 K run, the Skylanders Kids Run and the Mini Marathon.
