This morning begin your journey to Canberra via the Southern Highlands. Stop at historic Berrima, famous for its gaol and early colonial architecture then visit Gold Creek Station and meet local sheep farmer, Craig Starr, a Local Specialist. Get a taste of life on the farm before you join Craig and his family for a good Aussie barbecue lunch. Your destination is Australia's capital city, where you'll enjoy a tour through Parliament House with a passionate Local Specialist. Later visit the Australian War Memorial for a Cultural Insight and stay to hear the evocative Last Post. Join your Travel Director and fellow travellers tonight and get to know each other over dinner with wine.

Canberra - Beechworth

Before leaving Canberra this morning you'll visit the summit of Mt. Ainslie to take in views of the city and surrounding ranges from the lookout. Then, journey over the mighty Murray River into Victoria. Your destination is historic Beechworth, Victoria's best preserved gold rush town. Your unique overnight stay is in one of the town's quaint local properties. The region offers plenty of great photo opportunities, with towering winter snow-capped mountains, tree-covered ranges, magical lakes, wild rivers and tranquil rural farmlands. Get to know Beechworth with an orientation and enjoy some free time to explore the antique shops, galleries and the museum. Why not enjoy a coffee and delicious treat from the legendary Beechworth Bakery! Tonight, if you're feeling up to it, head down to Hotel Nicholas for a good pub meal. The hotel was built in 1857 during the heady gold rush days and houses a great collection of local memorabilia.

Beechworth - Melbourne (2 Nights)

This morning join your host for a Be My Guest breakfast. Later, travel through Glenrowan and Ned Kelly country to culturally diverse and cosmopolitan Melbourne for a city sightseeing tour, where you'll hear all about Melbourne's wonderful history, its famous buildings and sensational shopping. This evening is free for you to do as you wish. Your Travel Director will be able to point you in the direction of some of Melbourne's hottest eateries.

Melbourne Sightseeing

Today your choice of sightseeing: visit Eureka Skydeck for fantastic views of Melbourne. With 360 degree floor to ceiling views, it's the southern hemisphere's highest viewing platform; join a Hunt and Gather Food Tour of Queen Victoria Market to take in the life, sounds and stories of the historic marketplace and taste your way around the market's seemingly endless food stalls or take a guided walk through Melbourne's famous hidden laneways, where you'll discover the city's eclectic little lanes, arcades, café society and fascinating street art. This evening, why not indulge in dinner at one of Melbourne's laneway restaurants? These hidden laneways house some of the best restaurants the city has to offer. You're in for a treat!

Phillip Island Penguins Kangaroos And Koalas

Visit the Maru Koala & Animal Park to see koalas, kangaroos and other animals. View Seal Rocks and the Nobbies, overlooking one of the most treacherous oceans in the world, Bass Strait. At the Penguin Parade witness the wild Little Penguins emerge from the sea after a hard day’s fishing and waddle across the sand to their nests.

Great Ocean Road And Twelve Apostles

Travel the Great Ocean Road. Marvel at golden sandy beaches. Visit Apollo Bay for lunch (own expense). The limestone rock formations of the incredible Twelve Apostles are a result of erosion that began up to 20 million years ago. Hear the amazing shipwreck survival story of the Loch Ard and visit its famous gorge. Visit Port Campbell for afternoon tea (own expense) before returning to Melbourne.

Puffing Billy Steam Train And Wine Country In Style

Travel east of Melbourne to the beautiful Dandenong Ranges. Enjoy tea and coffee at Grant’s Reserve and hand-feed crimson rosellas. Take a ride through the spectacular forest aboard the Puffing Billy Steam Train. In the Yarra Valley have time to find a delicious lunch (own expense), before visiting two of Victoria’s premier wineries for tasting and wine appreciation.

Phillip Island Penguins Up Late

Travel directly to the Penguin Parade. Enjoy panoramic views of the French Island before witnessing the amazing nightly ritual. Watch penguins march up the sand to their nests and enjoy time browsing through the educational centre. Travel express back to Melbourne.
