It’s simple – point, shoot, instant translation. All you need is to take a photo of the word you’re looking to translate. This works in 7 different languages.

This app allows you to communicate with pictures, when you can’t quite find the words. Choose from over 400 different images and combine them to get your point across. If these still don’t quite cover it, you can add your own images, or draw on the top.
- iTranslateVoice (paid, iPhone)
Speak into this app and it will repeat the phrase in the local language to make conversation a whole lot easier. You can also connect with other users wirelessly to keep in touch once you get back home. This works in 42 different languages.
- Verbalizeit (paid, Android and iPhone)
This app is great for more official conversations, allowing you to speak to a qualified translator who’ll translate on your behalf, taking the stress out of more important conversations.
