If you’re planning to travel this year, there are some pretty monumental events taking place around the world – and you can experience all of them with us.
100th anniversary of the Gallipoli Campaign
2015 marks the 100th anniversary of the WWI Gallipoli landings. Thousands of Australians and New Zealanders lost their lives while storming its shores on 25th April 1915, expecting to join British forces on the Western Front.
Today, a large proportion of Aussies and Kiwis head to the Gallipoli peninsula each year, to pay their respects to fellow countrymen who lost their lives during the campaign. Residents of Australia and New Zealand can join one of our two commemorative ANZAC Day trips, departing mid-April.
The Magna Carta
This year is the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta. This important document, signed by King John in 1215, signified the beginnings of democracy and established the principle that everyone is subject to the law.
While much of the original document has no relevance in today’s society, there are a couple of clauses that still remain – including defending the liberties and rights of the English Church. Come with us on our Britain and Ireland Grandeur trip and you can visit London’s British Library to see two of the original 1215 documents.
50th anniversary of The Sound of Music
What better way to celebrate 50 years of The Sound of Music than by visiting its home – Austria. Based on a true story, the musical comes from the memoir of Maria von Trapp and the Von Trapp Family singers, which was later transformed into the multi award-winning movie.
You can explore some of the famous places featured in the film, including the Church in Mondsee where Captain Von Trapp and Maria wed, on our Sound of Music trip.
Expo Milan – Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life
This year’s Expo Milan – a universal exposition – will interest anyone who’s concerned about technology, innovation, culture, traditions and creativity, and how they relate to food and diet.
The six-month event is designed to educate around the sustainability of food and the planet’s precious natural resources. There’ll be talks from global thought-leaders, as well as shed loads of information on how we can develop sustainable lifestyles. Join our Best of the Italian Lakes trip and you’ll have free time to drop by at the event.
125th anniversary of Yosemite
On the 1st October 1890, President Benjamin Harrison signed a document declaring Yosemite as the nation’s third National Park; 2015 marking its official 125th anniversary.
Since then, millions have enjoyed its 747,000 acres of sheer beauty, from lush forest to cascading waterfalls. And you can too on our California Dreamin’ trip, which includes a special tour with our nature historian.
Head to Trafalgar.com and search for any of the trips mentioned if you’re interested in finding out more.
