5 Reasons to Travel for Thanksgiving

Recently updated on January 23rd, 2020 at 10:59 pm

While we cherish each Thanksgiving spent at home, the holiday doesn’t have to follow the same pattern every year; sometimes it’s more rewarding to switch up the routine and try something completely different. With the holidays fast approaching, we take a look at five reasons to travel for Thanksgiving.

Travel for Thanksgiving

  1. Stepping Away from the Oven

Make this holiday one to remember by taking a break from the kitchen. Instead, have a Thanksgiving meal with a difference as it’s made for you in your destination, showcasing the best of that country’s seasonal produce. After all, who needs another turkey dinner?

  1. Keeping Your Dishes Clean

It’s so often the case that spending the holidays at home means setting aside a significant amount of time to tackle household chores. Between preparing meals and keeping dishes clean, most people would agree this takes up a lot of valuable time. Let someone else do the cleaning for you this year, while you enjoy a well-earned rest.

Travel for Thanksgiving

  1. Skipping the Grocery Store

From the Mediterranean cuisine of Greece, Italy and Spain to the warming winter fare of Scandinavia, tasting the local produce prepared in regional recipes is sure to be a highlight of the trip. So this Thanksgiving, consider swapping your local grocery store for the local markets of Europe.

  1. Enjoying Family Time

Much of Thanksgiving is about showing appreciation for our loved ones, and what better way to do that than by increasing the amount of quality time spent together? Away from our busy schedules back home, it’s easier to unwind in each other’s company, while creating memories to reminisce about at next year’s Thanksgiving dinner.

Travel for Thanksgiving

  1. Glass After Glass of Italian Wine

What better way to celebrate the season than with a glass or two of wine? Travel to the vineyards and wineries of Italy and France, sip sherry in the Bodegas of Jerez in Spain, or travel through Barossa Valley in southern Australia to sample local wine at its source.

If you’re feeling inspired to travel for Thanksgiving, book a place on one of our tours. Go wine tasting in Italy on the Flavours of Italy trip, discover French gastronomy on the Paris Explorer, or travel through Europe on the European Highlights trip.
