Where was Bridget Jones filmed? 21 filming locations you need to visit

Recently updated on April 22nd, 2025 at 02:18 pm

Back in 2001 we all fell in love with Bridge Jones, our relatable heroine trying to navigate the complexities of modern love and life in her 30s. Fast-forward to 2025 and the fourth film in the franchise has just been released, again staring the affable Renée Zellweger as our leading lady.

In the rom-com series Bridget’s witty, self-depreciating and endearing sense of humor and clumsy nature continue to get her caught in a never-ending spiral of awkward situations. From her charming flat above a London pub to picturesque parks and street scenes, the majority of the four films were shot in and around London (with some scenes in the British countryside, Austria and even Thailand). Let’s dive into the world of our flawed-yet-loveable character so you can walk in her footsteps (or relive the Darcy vs. Cleaver fight) at these Bridget Jones filming locations.

1. Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001) – the first chapter

Borough Market – Bridget’s original flat

Bridget’s beloved flat, located above The Globe Tavern in Southwark, is one of the most memorable filming locations in Bridget Jones’s Diary. The apartment overlooks the bustling Borough Market and serves as the backdrop to many of Bridget’s hilarious and heartfelt moments. This bachelorette pad is a symbol of Bridget’s quirky charm and London life, and in the newest flick she’s seen wandering through the market stalls with her date.

Tate Modern & Millennium Bridge

In Bridget Jones’s Diary, Bridget’s journey through London takes her past the Tate Modern gallery (it’s free to enter!) and across the Millennium Bridge. It’s easy to visit these two locations on a trip to London, and you too can reflect on your love life while there.

Royal Courts of Justice, Westminster

Mark Darcy, the human rights lawyer played by Colin Firth, offers Bridget Jones an exclusive TV interview for his high-profile case. It takes place outside this grand Gothic building.

Royal Exchange, Threadneedle Street

One of the most famous locations might be the Royal Exchange, where Bridget and Mark Darcy share an unforgettable kiss in the snow. Bridget stands there in her underwear, Mark in a woolen coat, and the stunning architecture of the Royal Exchange makes a fitting backdrop.

Snowshill, Gloucestershire

The scene with the turkey curry buffet is one that sticks long in our minds. It’s here at Bridget’s parents’ house in the countryside that she meets (and instantly dislikes) Mark Darcy. This small and  very charming village has a population of just 160, and if you visit in summer the lavender fields will be in bloom.

“It all began on New Years day, in my 32nd year of being single. Once again I found myself on my own and going to my mother’s annual turkey curry buffet. Every year she tries to fix me up with some bushy-haired, middle-aged bore and I feared this year would be no exception.” – Bridget

2. Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004)

A few years later we were treated to the next instalment, with Bridge returning to the screen along with Darcy and Cleaver. This one went international, taking us to Austria and Thailand.

Primrose Hill

Primrose Hill is where Bridget fantacises about Mark Darcy in the opening scene. It’s a tunning spot for a picnic or a stroll on a sunny day.

The Light Bar, Shoreditch

We all need advice from our friends, and it’s at this east-London restaurant that Bridget meets up with Shazza, Jude, Tom, and Miranda to catch up on life. They’re convinced she’s being cheated on, but are friends always right?

Kensington Gardens

We love a rom-com fist-fight – and this hilarious duel over Bridget takes place in Kensington Gardens when Darcy and Cleaver get physical. It ends with Darcy thrown into a fountain in the Italian Garden.

Thailand

Bridge’s quite romantic holiday turns into an unforgettable misadventure in Thailand. The buzzing streets of Bangkok and stunning landscapes of Phuket and Phang Nga Bay are in the background of Bridget’s chaotic romantic tale.

Austria

Nothing goes smoothly for disaster-prone Bridget, and in Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, Austria is the backdrop for a ski trip disaster. The picturesque Alps set the scene for snow-filled mishaps around Lech am Arlberg, just outside of Innsbruck. You certainly won’t embarrass yourself as much on the slopes.

3. Bridget Jones’s Baby (2016)

Fast forward to 2016 and chaotic-yet-loveable Bridge is single and pregnant. Let’s look at where it was filmed.

Greenwich Park

The sprawling gassy hills of Greenwich Park play the backdrop for a warm spring day when Bridge’s old friend Shazza (played by Sally Phillips) and our heroine catch up on all things babies and boys.

London Aquatics Centre, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park

Bridget’s navigating the world of pre-natal birthing classes (in a way that only our Bridget could manage!) along with both Jack and Mark. These scenes take place at the London Aquatics Centre in Stratford.

Albert Bridge

Whatever can go wrong will go wrong with Bridget, and nature decides she’s going into early larbor. There’s a protest and traffic that force Mark and Jack to carry her to the hospital – and the path takes them over the pretty Albert Bridge in Battersea.

4. Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy (2025) filming locations

Hampstead – Bridget’s new home

In Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, our heroine has moved on from her flat and into a home in Hampstead Village, one of London’s most beautiful (and affluent) neighborhoods. Hampstead represents the next, more mature chapter of Bridget’s life, and the area is filled with cobbled streets, cute cafés, and stunning Georgian townhouses. Fans can stroll the neighbourhood, grab a coffee and venture to Parliament Hill on Hampstead Heath, where Bridget shares a key romantic moment in the film.

Key London locations

  • The Old Queen’s Head: The vintage interiors of this classic pub in Islington make the backdrop for a gathering with Bridget’s friends in the latest film.
  • Electric Diner: This French-style American diner is an ideal date spot on Portobello Road – which is where Bridget shares a meal with a date in the newest film.
  • Hackney Canal: You too can enjoy a picturesque walk along this historic canal.
  • Moor House: In the heart of the city the exterior of this modern office block is used as Bridget’s Workplace in the 2025 film– interior scenes were shot at a studio.
  • The Hope & Anchor: This Hammersmith pub is where Hugh Grant’s character Daniel Cleaver attends a spoken word gig.
  • Petersham House: Visit this 17th-century stately Richmond home, where Bridget attended a garden party with a dramatic dog rescue.

The Lake District, Cumbria

Rolling green hills under a partly cloudy sky in a rural landscape, highlighted in the 2022 travel sale.

In the latest film, Bridget accompanies her children on a school expedition to the Lake District in the north of England. This region is famous for natural beauty, from rolling hills and lush forests to expansive blue lakes. One key filming location here is Thirlmere, and apparently if you head to Steel End Road you can see the stunning valley location used as the backdrop for a handful of scenes.
