Vibrant green avocado gives guacamole its unmistakable zing. Enlivened with lime, red onion and chili and topped with a sprinkling of coriander, it’s no surprise that this Mexican icon is a knock-out colourful dish, loved the world over. Did we mention it’s loaded with vitamins, too?

Made in a rainbow of dreamy pastel hues, macarons are the ultimate treat to indulge in when visiting Paris. Light as a feather with a tempting layer of ganache or buttercream within, these micro-meringues are made to be devoured, not shared.

Sushi, Japan
Bright orange salmon. Gleaming white rice. Deep green nori seaweed. Sushi’s pretty palette of colours is as beautiful as its delicate, refined flavours. Of course, you’ll find the best sushi in its motherland, Japan, where it’s expertly sliced and rolled to perfection.

Red velvet cake, USA
Allegedly created at NYC’s Waldorf Astoria around the 1920s, red velvet cake now enjoys cult-like status among baking fiends, who love its rich crimson colour and layers of sticky-sweet icing. Fun fact: its red colour originally came from beetroot, but today food colouring generally does the job instead.

Thali, India
Taking its name from the platter it’s served on, thali is an Indian dish combining servings of fragrant curry, crunchy poppadoms, chutneys and flavourful side dishes. It’s pretty as a picture to look at and tastes amazing too, thanks to myriad herbs and spices.

Greek salad, Greece
Best enjoyed at a beachfront taverna with a large chilled ouzo on the side, Greek salad is super colourful and super healthy. Slices of cucumber, tomato and red onion intermingle with salty feta cubes and olives, topped off with a sprinkling of dried oregano. Just don’t smash your plate after…

Poke, Hawaii
