An intimate table for two at a grand Belle Époque cafe in Budapest; an evening stroll across the bejewelled Ponte Vecchio bridge in Florence; a moment of quiet contemplation in Hawaii‘s Volcanoes National Park – the opportunities to make time together come in endless shapes and sizes.
We’ve selected a few of the most romantic destinations in the world that will help create new shared experiences, special moments and memories to cherish for years to come.
Paris
Even in an age known for its ostentatious wealth and absolutism, Louis IX’s Estate of Versailles stands out. A fantasia of mirrors, crystal, light, marble and oil paintings, the sheer exuberance of the place makes it an ideal place to add your own magic. In the City of Lights, however, romance lurks round every corner. Whether you stand in awe beneath the Arc de Triomphe, explore the quirky Latin Quarter or spend some quiet time within Notre Dame Cathedral, every corner of Paris has the power to captivate.
Florence
The birthplace of the Renaissance, Florence is widely considered one of the world’s most romantic destinations. Whether you take a stroll along the River Arno, admire Vasari’s and Zuccari’s brushwork at the Duomo, or sit with a glass of Italian wine in the company of Piazza della Signoria’s statues, the greatest draw has to be a visit to Ponte Vecchio’s jewellers. Blessed with more goldsmiths than even a billionaire could handle, it’s the perfect place to buy a memento to remind you of your trip.
Prague
Soak up the medieval grandeur of the Golden City of Prague. Renowned for its gleaming spires, astronomical clocks and gothic glam, the food and music in the Czech capital is an incredible draw. Dine on spiced weiner, crispy schnitzel or a rich goulash and wash it down with pilsner, a Moravian wine, or even a delicious herbal liquor known as Karlovy Vary. Whatever you choose, you’ll be suitably prepared for a romantic wander over the famous Charles Bridge, or a shopping-spree to treat your loved one.
Budapest
Take a relaxing soak in one of Budapest’s thermal baths or peer over an enchanted city from the fabulous towers of the Fisherman’s Bastion as dusk falls. The opportunities to conjure a special moment by the banks of the Danube are endless. Couples love to stroll the charming, crooked streets of the Castle District, indulge in coffee and cake at one of the city’s ornate Grand Cafes, or simply enjoy an evening together sampling fantastic Hungarian food and a glass of the country’s celebrated Tokaj wine.
Jaipur
Known as the “Pink City”, Jaipur displays an inimitable blend of Mughal and Rajasthani architecture, as well as lots of local delights. Get your partner involved with the hand block printing (which is how exquisite patterned fabrics are made), or visit a pottery workshop for some hands-on fun. If you want to wind-down in the evening, try some thali (a mixed platter) and payasam (a creamy rice pudding), or compete with your partner in a very popular custom: kiteflying!
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
Mother Nature puts on some of her most impressive displays at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Whether couples see the barren lava fields, the lush rain forests or go searching for some of the most fantastical flora and fauna the world can offer, there’s a lot to see and experience across its 505 square miles. The brave may even choose to go a step further, and walk the Kilauea volcano. The most active of the five volcanoes that form Hawaii, its caldera will make for the perfect romantic photo opportunity.
Several of these destinations are found on Trafalgar trips, such as Paris Explorer, Great Italian Cities and Hawaiian Explorer, so make some memories you’ll never forget by taking a look.
