Travelling as a family is so much fun. What could be better, after all, than having a laugh, sharing experiences and taking delight in loved ones when abroad? The fact remains, however, that the best family trips are usually those that follow these special tips…
Plan, Plan & Plan Again
Whilst you may not win prizes for playful spontaneity, you’ll be the one laughing when you’re fully equipped for every outcome. Think of juice cartons exploding, trolleys falling over and tantrums building apace in advance, and you’ll be imperturbable when your holiday comes.
Involve Your Children
Sometimes kids just want to feel involved. And the best way to do this is to let them aid parents in planning routes, details or stop-offs (or at least pretend they are).
Always Carry Small Change
When you have a large family, all the little costs can add up. From luggage carts to vending machines, from snacks to tickets, it’s just easier when you’re prepared with a wallet full of change.
Encourage Kids to Keep a Diary
Sometimes, kids play up because they feel as though they’re not getting enough attention. A good way of ensuring everybody is of equal importance is to get them to keep a diary of the trip, with public readings that’ll keep everyone entertained.
Remember: Baby Wipes are Always the Solution
Whether you want to sterilise something or simply mop up a mess, baby wipes are a real blessing in almost any situation!
Stay One Step Ahead of the Entertainment System
Keeping kids entertained can sometimes feel laborious. Therefore, plan everything from colouring books to Lego, from iPad games to online movies that’ll keep everybody happy when you want a little peace.
Engage in Group Activities
One of the key elements of a successful family holiday is making sure everybody feels engaged. It doesn’t matter what the activity is, from postcard-collecting to baseball on the beach, as long as there’s a sense of communal fun.
Make Older Members Feel Responsible for Younger Ones
A great tip for large families is to split everybody up into smaller units. Operating in little duos ensures everybody feels organised – but not oppressively so.
Always Carry Water
It’s surprising how often people need watering! And in transit we rarely have access to hydration at the rate we’d like. Take lots of water with you to make sure you’ve got the basics covered.
