Recently updated on March 5th, 2025 at 04:11 pm

Our Trafalgar Unlocked Awards competition has now closed and after combing through over 10,000 incredible entries, and the lucky winners have been announced. Each of these winners will be joining us with their travel companion on a 12-day trip to the Balkans this June. One of those lucky winners was Mita, who shared this in her Trafalgar Unlocked Awards entry:

“Trafalgar has opened avenues to entering the doorway to phenomenal travel around the world! We have cherished memories from the many trips we have taken with this stellar Travel Operator who has always gone above and beyond in making our holidays a treasure chest of memories! We have traveled pretty much every continent except Antarctica with them and their sterling staff take you to a dizzying stratosphere of excitement with all the additional frills!”

Mita has an amazing travel story so we sat down with her to find out more about her most memorable moments on tour and why she loves travelling with Trafalgar.

How did it feel to be one of the lucky Trafalgar Unlocked Award winners?

It was a moment of jubilation and elation. I was pretty stoked as this award is such a rewarding moment! I was humbled, honored, and overwhelmed as the judging panel believed in my story and my treasure chest of memories from my wonderful journeys with Trafalgar over more than a decade.

Have you ever been to the Balkans?

No, I have never been to the Balkans and I am waiting with bated breath to travel to a dream destination that I have been longing to discover!

Who will you take with you on your Trafalgar trip to the Balkans?

I am taking my soulmate, my anchor, and pillar: My husband who is over the moon as he has been on all Trafalgar trips with me we took collectively over the years!

What are you most excited to see and do during the 12-day Balkans Trafalgar trip?

I am convinced that Trafalgar will offer an excellent bespoke trip for the winners. My vote of confidence is forever instilled in their planning! If I were to pinpoint a highlight it would be the Be my Guest Dinner which usually helps us to get immersed in the culture of a country with the locals. Also, I am excited to see the three amazing destinations – Croatia, Bosnia, and Montenegro – as all will add their own flavor! The Balkans boasts dramatic landscapes with unrivaled and mesmerising nature so I cannot wait to see what unfurls on this trip!

Your Trafalgar unlocked awards entry photo was from your Scenic Scandinavia and its Fjords Trafalgar trip. When did you go on this trip?

We went on this trip in July and August of 2022. During COVID everything came to a screeching halt and we couldn’t travel, so this was our first trip after the borders opened for travel. This was our biggest mental reset and Trafalgar seamlessly handled everything flawlessly as always. They even had a wellness Director onboard to attend to us post-COVID!

What was your favorite part of this trip?

My favorite part was to again be able to see so many smiling faces of a group that were able to travel post-COVID. It was as if our freedom of expression was once again restored! Every country presents you with lots to enjoy but one of the best parts is to interact, socialize, and become that family of travelers, along with the Travel Director, Driver, and Wellness Director,  to make a lifetime of memories!

How many Trafalgar trips have you taken?

I have taken about 10 plus Trafalgar trips to different continents as they are stellar!

What is your all-time favorite travel destination or Trafalgar trip?

Actually, all trips had their own wow factor dynamics! If I were to name one it was Italy. The reason is that on my first Trafalgar trip in 2010 to Spain, Portugal, and Morocco we made lifetime friends with Glenda from Australia and Paul from Boston. Since then, we have traveled to other countries a couple of times together including to Italy… And to date, they are very good friends! Also, Patrizia, our Travel Director on the Italy trip, was amazing! All Travel Directors have been amazing but Patrizia from our Italy trip and Amanda from our Scenic Scandinavia trip were unparalleled and executed everything to perfection.

What is your favorite thing about traveling with Trafalgar?

Traveling with Trafalgar is a thrill! You get to immerse in authentic experiences which helps to bring the destination alive. It’s hassle-free as they take care of all the logistics from receiving you at the airport to handling your baggage, with experienced Travel Directors and Guides. Plus you become one big family with your fellow travelers and this helps to forge life-long friendships. So comfort, value, and convenience are all factored in!

Why is traveling so important to you?

For me, traveling is an adrenaline rush! It’s the best way to unplug from the daily humdrum. It helps to explore enchanting places, cuisines, cultures, and traditions. Travel helps to educate and elevate our minds which can be a true investment in our well-being. It helps us to break barriers and build bridges to foster goodwill and camaraderie. It helps you become a storyteller and I enjoy the cross-cultural learning curve. A compelling quote that really sticks with me is: “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness…” – Mark Twain.

What else is on your bucket list? Where are you traveling to next (besides the Balkans)?

The world and universe have so much to offer! I will continue to pursue adventures in traveling and keep adding to my bucket list. Next, I would really like to embark on an African safari trip and see the wildebeest migration. I have been to all continents with Trafalgar barring Antarctica. So if that becomes available, it might be something to consider! I still have an endless list that hopefully will materialize eventually.
