Trafalgar's New Year Resolutions

Recently updated on January 20th, 2020 at 06:56 pm

When January comes around, most people make New Year resolutions to give up or cut down on their greatest indulgences, but our New Year’s resolutions – which are much easier to keep – are about seeing and doing more, while experiencing more of what our extraordinary planet has to offer. Embrace the coming year by joining us on this journey of discovery.

See More of the World

What better way to broaden your horizons than by exploring more of the world we live in? Open your eyes to the planet’s diverse cultures and renew your passion for discovery by seeing some of the most astounding areas of natural beauty and greatest architectural feats of man. Venture to the golden sand dunes of northern Africa, be mesmerised by the glaciers of Argentinean Patagonia, or fall for the sublime white sand bays of Southeast Asia.

Travel Deeper

Perhaps what defines a destination most is the local community that lives within it. So it goes without saying, the most insightful experiences are those that take you deeper into local life. And in each destination, it’s the stories you’re told that give you a better understanding of that place. Listen to the moving story behind Hungary’s family-run Schieszl Winery while you tuck into home-cooked Hungarian fare, or get to know the Sisters of the historic Kloster Wernberg monastery in the scenic Austrian countryside.

Meet Like-Minded People

One of the greatest benefits of group travel is that it brings together like-minded people. Whether setting out on a journey around Tuscany’s boutique wineries, tucking into farm-to-table fare in Spain, or absorbing the ancient sights of Rome, each traveller can be certain they’ll be in the company of fellow oenophiles, gastronomes and history buffs. As well as making memories, these trips can result in long lasting friendships, whether you’re a solo traveller or with friends and family.

Try Different Cuisines

While our home cities now have an impressive offering of international eateries, they’re no substitution for the real thing. Savour succulent sushi from Tokyo’s famous Tsukiji fish market or Zen Buddhist cuisine made by the monks themselves; in Italy, eat homemade pasta with the local olive oil and ripe tomatoes picked that same day; and in Marrakech, taste the fragrant spices of a Moroccan tagine. As you widen your experience of the world, widen your repertoire of its flavours.

Learn New Skills

Instead of just buying souvenirs, invest your time in learning a skill to take home with you. Whether you’re taking a culinary class, trying your hand at traditional crafts, or learning some of the local language, picking up this new skill might just be the beginning of a new pastime.

Give Back

Make a lasting contribution to the places you go by volunteering or donating to a local cause. Free the Children and Adopt a Village are two charities Trafalgar works with, raising funds and facilitating life-changing projects within communities worldwide, while the not-for-profit TreadRight Foundation promotes the preservation of cultural heritage and the environment. On Trafalgar trips you have the chance to support the communities you’re in by stepping inside each destination’s small workshops, family-run restaurants and boutique wineries, among other local businesses.
