How to Banish the Post Holiday Blues

Recently updated on January 22nd, 2020 at 07:19 pm

After returning from an incredible trip, it can be easy to slip straight back into the daily grind. So how do some people manage to keep that holiday high for longer? Keep the healthy glow you had when you returned from your travels by following our tips on how to banish the post holiday blues.

Post Holiday Blues

Keep Perspective

Stress can accumulate quickly when we’re in the throws of work life, but think back to the realisation you had when you were away that the stress perceived is often not necessary. By keeping that perspective in control, the daily routine becomes far more enjoyable.

Shake up the Daily Routine

Being on holiday forces us out of our daily routine, but it’s all too easy to fall back into old habits. Instead of staying on the work, sleep and TV cycle, try a new activity, sign up for a class and try to spend more time seeing friends.

Stay Rested

We all know how the amount of sleep we get can ultimately transform how we feel, so instead of staying up late to watch that TV show, hit the pillow a little earlier, or use the excuse to set your alarm to go off slightly later. The more rested you feel, the less likely exhaustion is to creep up on you.

Eat the Right Way

Keeping our bodies in-check also relies on the food we eat, and on holiday we inevitably eat more healthily as we try the local seafood or exotic fruit and have a far more varied diet. Why not keep this up at home; you could even try cooking up some of the dishes from the destination you visited, for a vivid reminder of your time there.

Take Time Out

Even with plenty of sleep, taking time out to reflect is a tactic adopted by the most serene and relaxed among us. Whether you opt for a meditative yoga class or set out on regular walks through the park, this time out can help to keep away post holiday fatigue.

Get Active

Sign up for an activity that you think is fun, from taking up a team sport that connects you with others, to seeking out an activity you tried on holiday. Not only will it provide regular escapism, it’ll also make you fitter and stronger.

Keep the Dream alive for Longer

A tactic many people take is to keep a reminder of their holiday with them. From having a souvenir on your desk to wearing a piece of jewellery you picked up in one of the local markets, this little reminder of where you were can also be a reminder of how happy it made you feel.

Book the Next Trip

Having something to look forward to is a sure-fire way to keep the post holiday blues at bay. Whenever you feel down or stressed by the pressures of work, just spend a little time thinking about that next adventure…
