Dine at Boxing Legend, Muhammad Ali's Home - Real Word

Want to dine with The Greatest’s family? As one of our Be My Guest experiences on our Heart of the South and Spirit of the South trips, you’ll be able to visit Muhammad Ali’s childhood home in Louisville, Kentucky and enjoy a dinner with his brother, Rahaman Ali.

One of the world’s most celebrated sporting heroes, Muhammad Ali is as famed for his legendary performances inside the boxing ring as he is his fearlessness and pursuit of humanitarian causes.

The Muhammad Ali Childhood Home Museum is a treasure trove of photos, mementos, art, and videos. The timbered building was where a young Cassius Clay lived for 18 years between 1947 and 1961. It was here he first started to box after a chance encounter with Joe Martin, a policeman who advised a 12-year-old Clay that he should learn how to fight if he wanted to confront the person who stole his bicycle.

The home has been restored to the exact condition it was in when the Clay family resided there, from its pink walls (painted by Ali’s father for his wife, Odessa) to its many artefacts. During this Be My Guest experience, you’ll be guided around by Rahaman and given a privileged insider perspective to The Louisville Lip’s life.

Rahaman was a boxer in his own right. christened Rudolph Valentino Clay, after the silver screen heartthrob, and known as Rudy until his conversion to Islam. As a professional boxer, he won 14 of his fights, seven by knockout, and losing only three. He recently released a book, That’s Muhammad Ali’s Brother! My Life on the Undercard chronicling his own life and sharing personal memories of his brother.

After the museum tour, you’ll eat a traditional Southern dinner with Rahaman at the Ali Air B&B adjacent to the museum on Grand Avenue. Enjoy a delicious meal of warm scratch rolls, roasted zucchini with herb-roasted new potatoes and sliced apple pie.

This Muhammad Ali visit is one of our most exclusive Be My Guest experiences, which gives you the chance to truly immerse yourself in the iconic boxer’s history. You’ll also get to visit the Ali Grand Avenue Educational Centre and receive a memento to take away at the end of the experience.

Aside from Muhammad Ali’s former home, the Heart of the South and Spirit of the South trips transport you through Georgia and Kentucky. You’ll travel though the region via the awe-inspiring Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the award-winning Buffalo Trace Bourbon Distillery and the Vanderbilt-owned, Biltmore Estate, America’s largest private home.
