Our Trafalgar Unlocked Awards has now closed. After combing through over 10,000 incredible entries, the lucky winners have been announced. Each of these winners will be joining us on a 12-day trip to the Balkans this June.
One of the lucky winners was Raj, who shared this brave moment as part of his entry.
“There are a lot of great moments with Trafalgar, but my favourite one is when I got on stage in Switzerland for a yodel challenge. I was cheered on by Trafalgar guests and I actually won!
“Mind you I am not a singer and I already had two steins of beer before – and then had to drink another stein after the challenge on stage!”
We reached out to Raj to find out more about his favorite Trafalgar trips, and how it feels to named a Trafalgar Unlocked Awards winner.

How did it feel to be named one of our lucky Trafalgar Unlocked Award winners?
I was really excited to be picked as one of the Trafalgar Unlocked Awards winners. I haven’t been to the Balkans, even though it is on my bucket list and I will be taking my wife Sarah with me.
What are you most excited to see and do during the 12-day Balkan Delight Trafalgar trip?
Back in April 2019 we did Highlights of Eastern Europe with Trafalgar and we went to Zagreb in Croatia. We are looking forward to seeing the rest of Croatia and the Dalmatian Coast including Split, Hvar and Montenegro. My travel preference is seeing the cultural and historical aspects and trying local cuisine.

You jumped on stage in Switzerland for a yodel challenge. Tell us more about this magical moment. Had you ever yodeled before?
In 2017 we went on the Grand European tour and went to a restaurant in Switzerland. It was the Swiss Folklore Evening and Dinner, which included a folk dance show. The lady on the stage asked for some volunteers for a yodel challenge so I volunteered out of our group. Silly me! No compromises, just follow the host!
We all had to skol a beer after our performance. This was my first time, and probably my last!
I chose the Grand European tour as it gave me insight into 13 countries in one tour. It was on our bucket list to tour around Europe.

Why do you feel it is important for you to travel and experience new places and cultures?
I feel it is important to see other cultures and try their food, meeting other travelers from different countries and backgrounds.

Have you taken other tours with Trafalgar? What is your all-time favourite travel destination or Trafalgar trip?
Yes, we have taken 3 tours: Grand European, Highlights of Eastern Europe, and India from Delhi to Mumbai.
It’s hard to pick a favourite cause I like them all. Grand European tour will be top of the list though cause it was our first. There were so many memorable moments during our 20 days. We saw all the best sites, and sceneries and met so many good people in our group.

What is your favourite thing about travelling with Trafalgar?
I like travelling with Trafalgar because all the hard work is done for you and you can pretty much travel stress-free. Basically from the first call you make with the Trafalgar agent till the last day of return and everything in between, from the coach driver, Travel Director and local guides are all very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.

Where else is on your bucket list?
The next trip on our bucket list is Contrasts of Switzerland, Highlights of Spain and Portugal, and Scenic Scandinavia. Hopefully we can do them back-to-back!
