Iconic locations from the best James Bond movies

Word on the street is that – at last – the newest James Bond film, No Time To Die, will be released by October. To celebrate the latest 007 flick, we’ve dived into the best James Bond movies and the iconic James Bond filming locations that the famous globe-trotting spy explores.

Italy

The best James Bond movies love Italy almost as much as we do. In the upcoming release, we’ve spotted the stunning ancient town of Matera in the trailers. Famous for its chalky coloured buildings, this small village has had plenty of screentime in other flicks too, like Wonder Woman (2017).

The other slice of Italy in the trailer for No Time To Die is a chase scene set across an old bridge in the tiny town of Gravina in Puglia.

And, of course, older 007 flicks have taken us to the shores of beautiful Lake Como in Casino Royale (2006) and along the canals of Venice in From Russia with Love (1963), Moonraker (1979) and Casino Royale (2006).

In The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) we see him in northern Sardinia, in Quantum of Solace (2008) Bond is involved in a spectacular car chase along Lake Garda, and in Spectre (2015) we experience Rome in all her glory.

It’s safe to say Italy is quite the inspiration when it comes to James Bond movie locations!

Norway

From the heat of southern Italy to the icy landscapes of Norway, the latest James Bond movie features plenty of contrasting locations. We see the villain chasing a girl across a frozen lake which is apparently Langvann, near Hakadal, just north of Oslo.

Then of course there is an epic chase scene over the famous Atlanterhavsveien (Atlantic Road) that is a well known spot used for testing cars and filming ads. In the flick our secret agent is seen driving his classic Aston Martin while being chased by a bunch of Range Rovers, traversing the road’s incredible arch bridges that link a handful of tiny islands.

Jamaica

Taking us all the way back to the first James Bond movie, it was here in Jamaica that our spy watched Ursula Andress wander in from the sea in Dr No (1962).

Coming full circle, the latest film, No Time To Die, was launched in Jamaica in 2019 at creator Ian Fleming’s house Golden Eye. It was here that producer Barbara Broccoli revealed Bond would be living there and called the island ‘Bond’s spiritual home’. Indeed, the latest trailer shows a retired Bond at a beach house in Port Antonio, and more filming took place in the capital Kingston.

United Kingdom

More recently the best James Bond movies have given us a greater glimpse of life in London, between the MI6 base featuring across various films and in Spectre (2015) when we saw the suave secret agent’s own flat in Notting Hill.

But the film franchise is all about stunning landscapes, so of course leaving the big smoke for the countryside is a given. Where better to feature than the Scottish Highlands. In Skyfall (2012) we see the secret agent chase his Scottish roots all the way to Bond’s family home, Skyfall Lodge, located in the incredible landscapes of Glen Coe. And in The World is Not Enough (1999) the outrageously pretty Eilean Donan Castle plays a starring role as the MI6 Scottish headquarters.
