To celebrate World TV Day we’ve rounded up some of the amazing locations where our favourite TV shows were filmed. From the New York streets of And Just Like That to the Hawaiian beaches of White Lotus, these are the hottest places we’ve seen on the small screen worth seeking out on your travels.
The New York streets of And Just Like That
Billed as a new chapter to the iconic Sex and The City series, And Just Like That may be missing Kim Cattrall as Samantha Jones but alongside Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte, AJLT does feature our fifth favourite SATC character – New York City.
From Carrie’s Greenwich Village apartment (you can sit on those famous steps outside Carrie’s apartment yourself if you visit Percy Street in Greenwich Village where the exterior scenes are filmed) to the incredible architecture of The Brooklyn Bridge and the sprawling Central Park, New York City is featured in all its metropolitan glory.

The Hawaiian beaches from White Lotus
“Paradise is no vacation” might be the catch phrase of HBO’s hit show, but it’s hard not to fall for the gorgeous Hawaiian beaches of White Lotus. This six-part series follows the jet-setting elite in this dark social satire that’s part murder-mystery, part social commentery.
The series was actually shot at an idyllic real-life resort, the Four Seasons Resort Maui, where the whole cast and crew lived during the end of 2020. Think ocean views, luxe rooms and wild, tropical Hawaiian beaches for White Lotus nearby.

The stand-in Buckingham Palace of The Crown
Funnily enough the Queen wasn’t keen to shift out of her home or share some of the 775 rooms so filming of The Crown could take place. Where the TV show needed extravagant palace interiors for filming they had to look at alternative grand estates, palaces and locations. A favourite was the magnificent Goldsmiths’ Hall. You’ll see the hall in the scene where Lady Diana is skating inside and preparing for her wedding in that dress with the longest royal train ever (25 feet).

Vintage hotels of The Queen’s Gambit
In The Queen’s Gambit our hero Beth Harmon is whisked from the USA to Paris to Mexico City to Russia as she competes in chess tournaments around the globe. The reality? Where this TV show was filmed is actually mostly Berlin. If you want to follow her footsteps, venture to the buzzing German city and seek out these locations. The orphanage she grew up in is actually the private Schulzendorf Castle near Berlin. The Parisian hotel is Haus Cumberland, the Las Vegas hotel is the Palais am Funkturm, and the Aztec Palace Hotel in Mexico City is Berlin’s Friedrichstadt Palace.

Lallybroch from Outlander
If you’re an Outlander fan then a visit to the real-life Lallybroch will warm your heart. The fictional family home of Outlander character Jamie Fraser is a real castle in Scotland located just half-an-hour from Edinburgh. While the inside of Midhope Castle is derelict, the exterior of the Scottish castle where the TV show was filmed at Hopetoun Estate made the perfect setting for the show.

The 85-metre superyacht in Succession
Succession allows us to peek at the lives of billionaires and how they holiday. What does that mean for us viewers? Incredible destinations and locations. In HBO’s award-winning satirical drama we follow the Roy family on the New York streets, as they gather in an upstate New York retreat, sail a luxury superyacht in Croatia and venture to the Italian countryside. In season two we saw the family floating around the Adriatic Sea on an 85-metre superyacht. It’s called the Solandge and you can rent it for the very attainable price of €1,000,000 a week and sail around the islands of Mljet and Korcula yourself.
King’s Landing in Game of Thrones
Speaking of Croatia, HBO’s other smash hit fantasy blockbuster uses the small Balkan country too. The medieval seaside city of Dubrovnik enjoys screen time as the mythical King’s Landing in this world of magic. Filming also took place in Ireland and Iceland.

Grand homes of Bridgerton
Dear Readers, did you also get swept up in Bridgerton fever? In an interesting move, Netflix took a big risk on this high-budget, bold-costume period drama and it paid off. The 2021 lockdown hit whisks us around London’s social season. We bounce between grand homes and countryside estates where the TV show was filmed near Bath, United Kingdom. The sweeping Royal Crescent, designed by architect John Wood in the mid-1700s, stands in for London’s Grosvenor Square while the Bath Assembly Rooms are where Daphne and Simon locked eyes and… hearts.

Romantic scenes of Emily in Paris
There’s nothing more romantic than the city of Paris and this cute comedy is a lighthearted breath of fresh air. Have a giggle and enjoy gorgeous scenery of the City of Lights as the American expat navigates life in the French capital. Wander through Jardin du Luxembourg with Emily and dine at the historic restaurant Le Grand Véfour with our heroine.
